Summary

Hi!

This is a variation of Futuristic City Builder (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1680965)

Same algorithm and same customization. Just changed geometry and a new style of city is born.

This time looks even more futuristic so i called Sci-Fi. You can imagine planes and ships fliying around.

Uploaded some STL's with samples generated testing the algorithm.

For more info about customization see my previous citiy generator: (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1680965)

Hope you enjoy it.

Have fun!!

Print Settings

Printer:

BQ Prusa i3 Hephestos

Supports:

No

Resolution:

0.2 or less

Infill:

10% or more

Notes:

No supports!!! Geometry prints well without supports.

Tested with PLA at 0.2 resolution.

Infill acts like supports from inside so the roofs prints better. Use 10% or more to avoid holes in roofs

I use Cura 2.1.2 as slicer software and have some hints for better prints:

  • 2 shells, 3 Top/Bottom slices
  • Use Concentric Top/Bottom pattern for better roofs or 3 extra skin wall count (this is very important to avoid roof holes)
  • Use Lines as Infill Pattern. Reduces filament consumed and works like Grid

Hint: Print a big one!!! Looks awesome!

This is the most mindblowingest thing I've seen in quite some time!

People should post seeds that lead to interesting results

The smallest seed I could find that led to an interesting result was 5 lol

Thanks!! some seeds are great. Other not so interesting but if you search 'customized sci fi' you can see some nice cities generated by users

Ok, I give up. Where is the Random Number Seed exactly on the object???
I've looked all over the Cover_Figure.stl and can't find it anywhere.
Thanks!

Ok, found it. On the bottom underneath. Because your sample cover_figure.stl doesn't have a bottom, then number wasn't there. But it does appear on the ones I generate.
All good now.

Comments deleted.

The random seed for the 'cutted' is 492431

Also, a hint for openScad.

Comment the line with the seed (line 28) then every preview(F5) generates a random seed. Once you found one nice city, copy the seed from console (you'll see ECHO:Seed:123456) in line 28 and uncomment. then you can render with that seed.

One problem i found on OpenSCAD is random generator. Random sequences are no equal in preview and render. This forces the use of a manually set seed.

Its kinda odd in that both in Thingivew and Cura 2.1.2, your sample .stl files look hollow (view them from underneath). But when I go and slice them and view Layers, it is indeed infilling all the buildings...
These are awesome. btw!!
Impatiently waiting for my first few OpenSCAD builds to finish. My i7 Laptop is struggling with the complexity and it appears OpenSCAD is not mutlithreading... :(

It takes looong time to render on openSCAD, the big one took almost 2 hours on mi i5

oh!! true, one of the STL's samples have no base, looks hollow. That's because i cut the figure with Meshmixer (didn´t fit on my printer) and this is the top part (didn't notice that when uploaded the file). Anyway Cura adds a base.

Thanks!
