These pieces simply will not fit together. No matter what I do. I'm so sad about that.

Maybe post pictures of your print as a "Made" item so that we can have a look? The parts should slide together easily.

Kevin

I figured out what happened. I am reprinting now to see if it'll work. If it doesn't work I'll make sure to post a picture for help. Thanks!

i printed one while i do notice a couple things (while these might be caused by my printer). the end stops are way to tight to fit and it takes a lot of sanding for them to go over the bar.
the jetpack slides of sometimes because it's almost as wide as the body making it a bit smaller would most likely fix that (while glue also did the trick)

i really enjoy him and will show him in class when i have to help with a 3d printing project

Thanks for printing him! Hope you have fun with it! :D

The end stops are tight, but I didn't need to sand them on mine. I'm not sure if you used PLA, but I printed in ABS though, which might be softer than PLA.

I think this was one of the first things I tried to design. It's now almost 2 years later and I've learnt some more about designing for 3D printing, so it might be time to do a proper update and redesign! :D

Thank you again!

Hi, Wobbly is a great idea and thanks for the source files. I remixed him with fewer parts and some other mods like removeable head, etc. I was thinking he would make a great party favor for kids birthday parties by letting the children make their own Wobbly robot with different colored parts. I also posted my source files so people can continue to modify him.

Wobbly 2

The party favour idea is cool. Nice updates to the model!

how long does he take to print? Ill be using a 3d printer for the first time, and I only reserved it for a few hours.

It takes me quite a few hours to print (I print some of the smaller parts after work up until bedtime, and then set the bigger parts going overnight). However, I usually print with high detail (0.15mm layers) and with a lot of infill. I think he would print fine with thicker layers which would speed it up. Also, it depends on which printer you're using as some are faster than others.
So, I guess I didn't answer very well... :S
I wish you all the best for your first print!! I warn you that 3d printing is pretty addictive! Let me know if you do print Wobbly. :D

How did I miss this? Well, remedying this and printing it ASAP.

Awesome! Let me know how you go! :D (I'm a fan of your designs.)

This is an awesome design! Is it perhaps possible if you could post the sldprt files too?

I modelled him using Autodesk's 123D Design. I can put up those files if you're interested.

Yeah, That'd be awesome!

The files are there in the zip. Let me know what you do with them.

I've been hitting errors when I try to edit the rocket pack .stl

Hmm... What's happening?

I modelled it with 123D Design. I can put up a source file if you want to give that a try?

that's pretty cool, Hopefully it's possible to refine it further where you won't need the shoulder pads and the pocket change

Thanks for checking him out. Now that I've made this first print and figured out what it takes to get him to walk, I think it should be possible to do a version that won't need those. :) I'll have a go at it over the weekend. Stay tuned.

You know, I'm ok with the coin requirement, I think it would be pretty hard to change it so it doesn't need the coin (and it might end up looking very ugly with extra added parts). Perhaps a coin slot that is embedded in the robot would do nicely, so you can put the coin inside it and it will be hidden from view.

That's a great idea. So, he won't walk for you until you give him some money! :D

I think a holder for the coin will be the easiest way to get the weight there.

(As an alternative, I was thinking that one way to get the extra weight would be to give him some sort of tail... So maybe more like a T-Rex, but I think that will be a completely different model/build.)

Over the weekend, I'll tweak the arm dimensions so that they can stay in place better using friction. (Or else, I'll redesign the axel so that some sort of O-ring or other stopper can be attached.) I'll also add something to hold the coin and keep him looking cute.

Thanks very much for the comments and feedback!

Hi Lochemage, I've added some parts based on your feedback. There is now an "Arm End Stop" for holding the pieces on the axel. And there is now a "Rocket Pack" accessory that should be heavier enough to replace the coin. (If you need more weight, there is a slot in the Rocket Pack for placing a coin.)
