A simple spool holder for the Mendel90 Lasercut
I have done a detailed blog post as an introduction to OpenSCAD, using this design as a worked example. Check it out, any feedback is appreciated:
By changing variables in the the OpenSCAD script or using the customiser you can use different spool sizes and either 624 or 608 bearings.
I have been using this for 2.3kg filament spools and multiple small spools quire sucessfully, for the small spools the bearings are not actually required - use it as an over engineered peg.
The included stls are ready to go for 624ZZ bearings for a large (120mm dia) or smaller (50mm dia) spool. or use customiser or edit the SCAD to produce one for 608 bearings or a different spool size.
For the bearings:
4 624ZZ bearings, 4 M4 washers, 2 M4x30mm bolts and 2 M4 nyloc nuts
4 M3x20mm bolts, 4 M3 washers, 4 M3 nyloc nuts.
Once printed use the mounting plate end as a template to make holes to drill in the printer frame
