How is the rotor coupled to the shaft? Only by friction with the bearings?

The rotor and ball bearing (inner ring) are pressed together with the nut.

So it is friction holding the rotor :) I'll look into modifying that, depending on the results. Thanks!

I was irritated by the word "only"!
Look into your angle grinder. You will not find a feather key on the motor shaft. :-)

Sorry, didnt mean to offend your design, I love it! :D Im printing it atm, will post a make when Im done with it!

No sorry necessary. :-)

If it's any help, I do know a trick: The output is AC, so rather than rectify you can feed it into a voltage doubler. That way you get twice the peak voltage out, minus just one diode drop. It's more efficient, especially at low voltages. You'll barely get any current from it, though.

Thank you for the help, very interesting!
I will definitely try this.

That should do it. Schottky, of course. Nice big capacitors. It's actually a pretty efficient circuit. You should go over 5V easily with that.

I'm very interested in this, as a project for the community electronics club. Any chance you could extend the radius out %50 to add more magnets with the same phase configuration? Ultimately we're looking to build printable windmills with low cut in speeds.

Good work so far!

Hi mecizeldec
Currently I am working on a model with 32 pieces 10x10x40 magnets.
The rotor has 135 mm diameter. With stator about 150mm.

I think the 4 mm magnets are too weak.
what kind of magnets you intend to use?

did you read the specification chart on the magnet? you resonably have to place all the windings within 1 MM from the surface of the magnet to get the strongest magnetic field therefore more power. when i say the windings i also mean that ALL of the wire cannot be taller than 1MM from the magnet face or you begin to lose effect. Did you do the "paperclip test?" almost willing to bet you have 1MM of platic in the outer part of the holder. you need an open face design . I am working on one now when i have it done i will post the rotor.

if you check out my version (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2374343) i have added an stl file called 68MMframeless, it fits inside of your windings it also moves the 4MM magnets within a MM or so of the coil casing, this should give you better results with your mini, it also uses a fan blade for the hub so it can circulate air in case you wanted to beat me to it and see if it cools the coild any., the center rod in the design is 10mm i didnt know what yours was.

Halbach PM generator

hi,
