anyway of me having a peek at the openscad files especially for the x-ends

Id be glad to email you what i have. It's a bit of a mess and i've stopped work on both the extruder and xends, so it's nothing i want to put up here. PM me your email.

Mind adding the x-ends .stl too ? :)

Done, http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:18539http://www.thingiverse.com/thi...

I've got a lot of work to do on the .scad files before i post them.

I like it :) I've got a J-head on its way so I'm going to give this a shot! Btw, what kind of Z-axis is that? I don't see anything that looks like it when I type in vertical x axis.

hey thanks, i came to make this while scaling up from: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:14208http://www.thingiverse.com/thi... so the zsmoothrod and zleadscrew are flipped and spaced at 30mm. it should work with the xends you've designed without any huge modification. if you want to make my carriage match your belt placement you will need to modify "foot_clip()","BeltClampAdd()" and "BeltClampCut" just moving the belt from over to under the lower xRod. If i have time i'll try and do an update that makes that a snap and fixes a few things. Im glad you're looking to make this but you'll be one of the first testers so im not calling it "stable" just to be clear. enjoy

I just like the idea of combining the carriage and extruder in one. Also, with the stepper centered between the bars it should be more balanced.

I think the only thing I would change is adding some sort of clamp and tension adjustment for the belt.

So how has it been working for you so far?
As for my x ends, still need to iron out a few kinks. I cant get it to print well enough for the bearings and captive nut to sit properly. I'm sure i
ts a design flaw lol. While I still want to make mine work, I wouldn't mind moving to a good setup for now, even if its not mine lol

I'm still building the machine that this will work on so i've not printed anything yet. I have done some quick melt and extrusion tests and the smaller gear ratio seems to work fine(if direct drive can work this should too). it runs well on the xAxis, I will make some mods to my xends to help keep the belt tension a bit higher.

Also in looking at it the belt pretty much has to be where it is, moving it to work on your ends would interfere with removing it from the machine.

what kind of hotend is this?

It's a J-head Mark IV-B, it's 5/8" diameter groovemount design. This extruder should be able to modified(in scad) to work with other groove mount designs.

Wonderful ! I was thinking of going back from direct drive to geared extruder :)

And I'll be able to do that thanks to the 70mm standard we agreed upon; thinking back, I'm glad Bryan started that discussion.

agreed, the standard is good. It would be great to have more specifics about x-belt placement, and distance between the X
amp; Z rods. That would really help make parts interchangeable between vertX machines. I'll be posting my x-ends soon.
