Summary

3d printer design based completely on Nophead's Mendel90 concept. Note that this design is totally untested as of right now. If you want to make one, head over to the irc #reprap in freenode, and look for Stevetronics. I'm working on documentation, but I need to finish mine first. As you can probably see, this has been stagnant for quite some time - I'm working on it still, but I strongly recommend that you don't make this. Nophead's is better engineered all around, and a better bet if you want community support.

I would recommend making the mounting holes for the stepper motors into slots instead of holes. In my experience there is a fair amount of variation in the hole spacing of NEMA 17 motors, despite the fact that they are all supposed to be the same hole pattern.

Additionally, keep in mind that w
hen you convert the parts to STLs that all circular holes will become polygons with n sides. This will tend to decrease the effective diameter of the holes. For clearance holes I generally use 6-sided polygons in the model instead of circular holes, to give greater control over the output. This a
lso has the added benefit of decreasing the number of polygons in the STL file, and hence lowering the file size.

I'll be interested to see how this comes together :)

i want to put hinges below the Z motors so i can fold it up and be on the go in no time.

Not sure this would decrease the overall package size, since the buttresses would stick up in the air, and the vertical plane would not fold completely flat - the Z motors would hit the bottom plane.
