In ABS it breaks with very little sideways pressure but does compress really well, if you want something that bends (at least in two directions) look t my other customizable spring https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1795083

Durable Fully Printable Customizable Spring

this print orientation, doesn't it lead to easy snapping?

If you apply force in the spring compression direction it's very strong - it compresses all the way until the loops touch and springs back to the original length - I don't know how long it will last but I haven't broken my first one yet

If you pull the loops to the side or try to extend the spring it will break immediately.

This is true for ABS, I expect it to be a little stronger in PETG and a lot stronger in nylon but I didn't test it with anything other then ABS yet

Could you use nylon for more flexibility?

Probably, but I don't have a roll of nylon to test it here.

If you try it and it works I'll be happy to edit the text and suggest printing in nylon
