So my friend came up to me yesterday, he wanted a thing to hold his led strip to the wall without having to worry about the adhesive on the back peeling off the paint. We are allowed 10 holes in our dorm rooms so using something with a push pin seemed like the best idea. I made a mock up on a large sheet of graph paper and then a few hours later he had the stl file to print off in the morning.
So I first made a mock up in inventor using as few non parametric dimensions as I could.
Step 1 was to design the rail that would hold the LED strip, just a simple rectangle with a slot and rectangle cut out of it.
Step 2 was to add the thing for the push pin
Last step was to indent the thing for the push pin to sit flush in.
After I found the few non parametric dimensions I made the thing in openscad.
