NOTE 1: You need to use the 4.3 or 4.0 Clip. This is compatible with all OpenLOCK tiles and will work with the new S and I configurations. 4.3 clips are a slightly tighter fit and will pull the tiles very close togeather, If you want a slightly looser fit use the 4.0 clip

OpenLOCK System is an open source scenery locking system. OpenLOCK System will allow you to build interlocking scenery items, swap walls and floors, it connects 360 and will tessellate perfectly. It’s compatible with other scenery systems.

OpenLOCK is based on the 2 inch square Dungeon Tile

The purpose of releasing the OpenLOCK System as Creative Commons Public Licence is to encourage others to develop cross compatible scenery and to provide a convenient platform for the community. You can use the OpenLOCK System files to make your own tiles and distribute them under Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial CC BY-NC.

The locking system will print with its own supports which are easy to break off.

REGARDING HEIGHT. When designing OPENLock Items the minimum floor height is 7mm, this is the height that the tiles are currently set to, this is to allow enough distance between the top of the locking hole and the bottom of the top layer for the printer. It's advisable that you increase the height when making floors (8mm to 11mm). Wall height can be any height, however, normal dungeon tiles are around 50.8mm and some Sci-Fi Scenery is 80mm. Make sure you don't alter the connecting holes or the contact surface.

I want to create some of these openlock ports in devonjones' openforge ruined doorways. Is this booltool what I need to do that in a program like meshmixer?

The best option is to attach the OpenLOCK base from this set to your OpenLOCK tiles

Yeah, I got that, but I am not using a base. I am trying to add a clip section to the side of an external freestanding wall as well as other parts. I am asking if you have a tool for adding a hole for clips.

I can't get the clips to fit the tiles, as those pillars in the tile's clip-holes seem to be blocking it. Is this the right clip for these?

Is there a tool or app where I can draw out a dungeon, for example, and it will break it down into the OpenLock sizes so I know how many and what pieces to print?

Where can I get a standards document for the OpenLock system?

Is the file titled "Inch-Open-Lock-v3.1.stl" suppose to be the piece "IA" ?

If we were to try use this for a 1 inch scale game, how would you recommend going about this in cura? I tried halving both the clip and the "E" and adding .5mm to to "E", but that didn't work out great, and I can't seem to get more than 1 clip in "I" in addition even with both regular scale E and Clip I have a lot of trouble getting the clip in and out unlike on your video

The I tile is 1 inch x 1 inch

The scale of the tiles is already 1 inch so you don't need to scale it. if you do want to scale it then you will need to scale everything. If the OpenLOCK clips isn't a perfect fit that slides out easily then you need to check your printer settings

I use the Wanhao I3 2.1 with cura 2.3 20% infill and 1mm layer height but the clips don't seem to fit well, and E tiles seem to be 2 inch scale

EDIT: My bottom layer was a bit sagged out, causing a slight offset for the tiles. After filing them down smoothly, they fit like a glove!

I got a Wanhao I3 as well (plus though), and for some reason the OpenLock clips don't fit in my floors. It's printed in PLA. Should the clips be a more flexible material? Do I need to file something?

So to clarify I should be able to print 4 I pieces and clip them together to form a square?

If you need a two inch square then use the e tile

I need 1 inch squares however I would like to be able to make a floor out of said 1 inch squares, but I cant seem to be able to put more than 2 clips in one I piece

HI, I have updated the file to OpenLOCK 4.0, this clip has 1mm removed from the corners so you can now do that.

I have updated the openLOCK file set. We have added extra connection points and the vertices have been cleaned for convenience. We have also added 3 more tiles EA, SA and SB

Thank you for publishing this set. I'm hoping it becomes the standard for interlocking dungeon tiles. It really is elegant, and I'm definitely going to start printing some of Devon Jones' new OpenLOCK tiles.

@Talismancer, Only the floor sections have holes, do you never see them as they are always surrounded by walls or a cerb

Re: Openlock - Brilliant work! When I designed my triangular connector system with side magnets holes I realised that this would quickly detract from the look. It looks the same would be true with OpenLock.

It might be an idea to come up with some "half-clip" caps for the holes. A deluxe solution would be sloped edging. Something for the Indie gogo campaign?
