Summary

OpenSCAD script to create an Audi high security key HU66A-P. I created this based on taking measurements from my physical key and using the attached spec sheet, which I acquired from a locksmith.

This key will fit the following cars:

A4, 1996-2001
A6, 1996-2000
A8, 1996-2001
Cabriolet, 2000
S4, 1996-2001
S6, 1998-2002
S8, 1996-2002
TT, 2000-2001

This key has 8 cuts at 4 different cut heights. In order to decode the key, start from the cut furthest from the key blade tip and try to identify the key code. The closer the key is to the groove, the lower the number. For example, the key in the STL file has the code 3,3,4,3,1,2,2,1.

Go into OpenSCAD and enter the number from your decoding. Double-check to make sure it looks like your key.

Some vehicles that use this key have a transponder. My car doesn't have a transponder and the key works just fine in my car. Have fun!

Actually, I am not happy seeing people publishing keys for cars.
This is basicly asking for people to print these out and try to unlock cars of other people.
If you need your carkey replaced, contact a workshop that is a contractor with your cars company.
With american laws, this is actually complicity in an action, once someone uses your file to break in to cars.

I hear what you're saying but I'm not sure how much this would actually aid a thief. Given that there are ~65k (4^8) different key combinations for this key I'm not sure it would be realistic to "brute force" this. At 5 minutes per key, printing all of the combinations would take over 7 months of printing time (@10 min it's >1yr). By contrast most garage door openers (the generation before the rolling code) contain only 4096 code combinations (12 2 position dip switches-2^12).

By the time you printed and tried 32.5k keys (half of the codes) I think it would be easier (and less suspicious, or at least less likely to be seen) to just break the window. Let's say you were able to print the right key - even then most cars that use this key (Audi and VW circa 2000) contain transponders, so you won't be able to start the car.

This lock is not actually very secure and you can pick these in about 60 seconds with the right tool. My bro is a locksmith and It's extremely quick and easy. All you need is one of these: http://www.lockpicks.com/vw-group-hu66-1-2-3-hu-haa-lishi-pick-decoder-tool.html .

Bonus tip - this is my actual car key so if you can find my car you can steal it ;).

Crazy-awesome! This was probably my sixth or seventh print of all time. I had never even heard of OpernSCAD, yet I discovered your project, downloaded OpenSCAD, grabbed my VW Passat key, made some deductions with a caliper, and had a working backup key within two hours, including print time. I entered my deduced key code, adjusted the key head height to match the blade in order to eliminate the need for supports, sliced the exported .stl with the 15.x.x Monoprice-branded version of Cura that came with the Maker Select v2 my wife got me this Christmas, and printed it in PLA. It fit right in and opened my glove compartment. I got progressively braver, opening the hatch and then the driver door before very carefully cranking the car. With the factory key near enough for the immobilizer to deactivate, it works like a charm. That said, I wouldn't use my PLA version in the ignition more than once. It takes way too much force to crank the car. However, it's plenty durable enough to safeguard against locking your factory key in the car. Fantastic example of the potential that 3d printing holds. Glad to hear it worked for you! I forgot to mention the immobilizer - my car is a 2001 Audi S4 and doesn't use one (not sure why since other VWs around that time do) but it looks like some of the cars that use this key have an immobilizer.

Hopefully this project has opened you up to a whole new world of the awesome OpenSCAD! That was my first project using the software so hopefully it wasn't too difficult to navigate the code. Happy printing!

I've heard that before in regard to the immobilizer. Strange that VW started including them about a year earlier, (maybe mid-2000) in what's the same Audi chassis. (~96-2001 A4 = ~98-2005 Passat in the US)

It was easy to navigate the variables, though I won't proclaim to have a detailed understanding of the code... yet. I was helped by having a key with a very obvious cut depth of one, no fives, and some one-step graduations between.
