Most of you might know me when I worked for MakerBot, now I'm making AWESOME at 3DS!!!! If you want an affordable, easy to use 3D Scanner then Sense is for you. I've been using it with the Surface Pro 2 and it's fun to scan outdoors. The tracking works great and the software has amazing editing features that makes clean up easy. Save your scan for print in both STL and full color PLY.

There are a lot of choices out there, so try them all and see which works for your work flow. This Sense is the 3D scanner and software solution that works for me.

I also have a Sense 3D Scanner on the way ... are you happy with the results ? is it all they say it is ?

Wow, that looks excellent. How do you like the scanner? It's beyond reasonable at $399 if it works well. I have a nextengine 3d scanner that cost a lot more (Almost ten times the cost!). It does excellent scans, but it's slow and bulky. To do large scans it takes forever because you have to mount it on a tripod and scan the object from 6.5" (For excellent detail) to 18" (Decent detail) away. Imagine how long it would take to scan something large with only scans that are that far from the object, you have to mark it with clay and move it around, it takes FOREVER. This new scanner must be FAST to be able to capture your child sleeping like that. He'd wake up and start screaming if he saw a nextengine attached to a scary looking tripod with lasers shooting out at him and all the noise it makes. But so would any grown man :) Does this thing scan as fast as a cell phone takes a picture? Or does it need to be stationary for long time while it scans?

Ozar, since 3d systems does not allow returns, I wanted your opinion on whether you are happy with it so far and would buy again. I have been using a Kinect with Recontructme.

Looks like Monty Solo trapped in Carbonite!
