Earth Prime Inc designed this 2" hydroponic net-cup so that we could hack the flaws in our Beta Rendition Vertical hydroponic system. With this netcup, we make our required custom part water tight, and reliable so that we do not have to mass produce many expensive parts until funds are available Turns out, our hydroponic net-cup can help you with your DIY Vertical Hydroponic builds too rather than spending $750 on a Tower Garden.
Most DIY vertical hydroponic gardens run into a similar issue (unless the systems are run horizontally and stacked vertically). That issue is with the net-cup.
The way it is currently mass produce, the edge is designed to sit flush with the surface it is in contact with. When you stick your rockwool bound moist plants into the hole, the water does not continue draining downward. Instead, water wicks onto the rockwool and plant mass and over the edge of the water container onto the ground.
As a solution, we designed a net-cup with more "Pitch" or slant to the cup. In this manner, the slope given to the plant add physical support as well as precise water drainage.
Because our planter box system has a little bit of pitch (16degrees) and has a flat surface to fit, you may want to adjust the part to fit your specific project. First meaning you may want to increase the angle from 20 up to 40 degrees. Secondly, you may want to round the lip of the cup if you are inserting it onto a PVC pipe. For this, figure the circumference of the pipe. The netcup is 2.25 inches with the lip. That should give you the arc you need for the face to fit flush.
Hope this Helps. Hope you Enjoy!

The extended solid portion is to keep water from running over the edge.
