photo on printbed shows previous version without reinforcement
While waiting for the delivery guy with our Makerspace's laser cutter, I made this fancy two color knob for the door leading to the machine. Although initially designed on a whim, it ended up being very sturdy after some slight alterations and I thought I'd share this model with you!
No dual extrusion required, but two M5 nuts and bolts - enjoy :-)
I switched the color from yellow to black mid-print to recreate the look of a laser warning sign. With a machine and filament you are comfortable with, this is pretty easy! X3D file with color information is also included in case someone has dual extrusion.
Nuts & Bolts
Two M5 nuts that will just fit into the recesses in the base (heat them with a soldering iron if it is a little tight) and two M5 bolts going through the door from the inside are required in addition to the printed part. Make sure the bolts are long enough, I ended up sinking mine quite a bit into the door...
Designed with Tinkercad based on approx. measurements of a salt shaker that felt right and an imported SVG sketch of the laser warning symbol. The lack of a chamfer around the base is a little annoying, if the knob ever breaks or someone asks nicely I'll get back to working on this ;-)
