This is my attempt to make a head piece to the staff of RA that is a blend of the two seen in the movie and from an artifact from the Tutankhamun collection.

I would love to see any 3D prints made of my model so please post them.

If you appreciate the level of work I've put into this model, if it puts a smile on somebody's face, Please consider some form of patronage. Whether it's a few dimes, a few dollars, or a few meters of filament, I'd be very grateful. My Paypal account is "Digital_Reflection at yahoo dot com" (please convert to a real address).

Need some modeling work done? Contact me for that, too.

It is highly recommended that you print these models using supports.
For my model I used 3/4 dowels cut into two equal parts(approximately 2.5 kaddams ;-) ). Attach the RA staff mount to the top of the first dowel and then connect two dowels with the RA staff connector. The head piece of RA can then be mounted on top of the staff. For the finish work I used Rust-Oleum primer, Testors one coat lacquer bronze(#1847) and Model masters Ultra Gloss clearcoat(#28139. To antique the model I used Anitas all purpose acrylic expresso bean #11131. For the eye gem I use a 1.2 cm plastic hobby gem.

I am having a terribly hard time working with this file. What I'd like to do is split the headpiece so the front and back faces are separate so I can cast it in brass.

If you print it as two separate parts face up and face down you will lose most of the fine details.

Are you having a hard time printing it or casting it?

Actually struggling to effectively split the object. I suppose I could print it in one piece and split it with a bandsaw or something, but to make a sand mold I need it in halves

I will split it for you so you can cast it.

I am trying to print this at maximum resolution with a reprap. At midprint it just stops. (I have tried 3 times with different slices)

Any ideas why this could be happening?

I am using a sd card. Could this be a memory problem? or a problem with the speed of the sd card?

I don't have a reprap but I had a similar problem with my makerbot 2x where the print head was getting too hot. Once the print head got hot enough the filament would start to soften and no longer feed correctly. I put a fan on the print to help keep the print head cool and this fixed my problem. Hope that helps you.

I've been having bad luck printing this but it is not the print file. The first attempt my computer decided to go to sleep and the print was right at the top of the birds head. The second attempt I had switched laptops so one could be a dedicated PC to the printer and it decided to update and reboot in the middle of the night. Again, right at the top of the birds head. I am currently printing my third attempt and hoping it will be done by the time I get off work. If so I will sand, paint, and post a pic. Fingers crossed.

Good luck!! Can't wait to see how it turns out.

I am using a Zeus to print this... I notice the crystal is super tiny... a speck. I have to scale it up. Any recommendation to what size it should be?

Any plans on making the bottom fitting to the staff? You can see an example here: http://www.indyprops.com/pp-headpiece.htm

I will try to make the part you are asking for. I have a couple projects I am working on that are time sensitive. So I may not get to it right away. I will reply to your question when I've uploaded it.

This is so cool. I can't wait to fix up and make it look like the one from the movie.
More props .... more props :)

In two words.... A-WESOME

Wow, this is an awesome model. I'll most likely print it out soon.

This looks awesome - will you post it soon? I would love to print one in gold and translucent red gem for my son's room... Nice Work!

I've made some changes to my model and I have uploaded it. I have not had a chance to print it but it should print well. The only change I made was to deepen the symbols around the edge. I hope your son enjoys it.

Thanks a ton for this ! Is there a model file for the eye gem(s) ?

I've created a crystal model for the eye and added it to the zip file. I would love to see what the gold filament looks like.

No sense even printing this.
