A simple adaptation of HicWic's Universal Mount 525 to attach a Roland or Liyu style vinyl cutter to AllTed's MPCNC.
There wasn't a really satisfying mount for this style of drag knife that fits the Universal Mount. So, I made a very rudimentary mount. I found that the mounts that are spring loaded actually work against you, since they make corner action's practically impossible. Following Allted's advice, I use a piece of glass under the vinyl to make a nice flat surface (the carbide cutter is adjusted to only cut through the vinyl without scratching the paper backing).
Feel free to let me know if you think this part needs any adjustments. The zip ties seem to keep it plenty tight for my purposes.
1/16/2017 - I marked this thing as a work in progress. Version 1 held the cutting tool too high in Z space. Version 2a fixes the tool height issue, but I have not printed the new part yet. I also added the Sketchup project file in case someone wants to modify the design.
1/18/2017 - I unmarked this thing as a work in progress. It prints great and is functional.
These are the approximate settings I used.
1) Roland style vinyl cutter holder ($14 on Amazon) - QTY. 1
2) Small cable ties - QTY. 2
3) MPCNC Machine - QTY. 1
4) HicWic's Universal Mount 525 - QTY. 1
5) M3 x 12+ cap screws - QTY. 2
6) M3 nuts - QTY. 2
5) Sticky back vinyl material - QTY. 1+ sheet(s)
I designed this part in Sketchup, exported as an STL file and printed in Repetier with a Cura profile for PLA.
