Hairy Lion for dual extrusion.
This is a remix from Geoffro's design Lion HD (no supports required).

I had a new idea that it would be really interesting to print lion's mane with flexible filament and the body with normal filament. I think that it would look really good and it would also be interesting to touch.
My concern was, that the wall made of flexible material wouldn't be able to stand and support the mane. So, I split the model in 3 parts: body, mane and wall.

"Hairy_Lion_dual_flex.AMF" contains all three parts.
"Hairy_Lion_dual_flex_part1.stl" contains only main body.
"Hairy_Lion_dual_flex_part2.stl" contains only lion's mane.
"Hairy_Lion_dual_flex_part3.stl" contains only sacrificial wall.

Wall and main body are supposed to be printed with normal filament, and lion's mane with flexible filament.

Old files:

"Hairy_Lion_dual_x.STL" contains both main body and hairy part with sacrificial wall (stl file might be problematic if it doesnt fork, try amf file).
"Hairy_Lion_dual.AMF" also contains both main body and hairy part with sacrificial wall.

"Hairy_Lion_dual_part1.STL" contains only hairy part with sacrificial wall.
"Hairy_Lion_dual_part2.STL" contains only main body.

Models are crude and aren't perfect. But I hope it will work well enough.

This desperately needs to incorporate a brim for the sacrificial wall part.

Used a single extruder machine - Monoprice Maker Select Plus with added micro-swiss all metal hot end. PLA filament
Sliced with Simplify3d using standard settings for Monoprice printer, but no supports
Used a hair dryer (hot, low speed) to style the mane.
Looks great:)

How did you design this?

I described it in this comment: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2007221/#comment-1214270 (You have to copy and paste it in URL bar. Clicking on link doesn't work )

Hairy Lion

Thanks so very much for sharing. I really appreciate you sharing the knowledge :-)

Can you explain how this is printed? How is the mane printed separately from the body, and how would you go about putting it on? Or am I completely misunderstanding how this is to be done?

This is meant for dual extruder 3d printer ( for example: BCN3D Sigma, Ultimaker 3,... ). It is supposed to be printed at the same time with two different colours or materials.

Ahhh, missed that part thanks.

Thank you very much, I managed to print one in dual mode. I was thinking it will be great if the eyes and nose can also be separated from the body. :)

I saw Joel printing one on the GMax, can you make a 2x and 3x size versions of this -- I'd like to print this guy bigger in dual extrusion.

Which one lets you print the wall with dissolvable filament?

You can try "Hairy_Lion_dual_flex.amf". It has 3 parts. Print Body and Hair with extruder with normal filament and with dissolvable filament print only the Wall. I hope that will work.

Can you please add the remix from my lion, thank you.

Yes, of course.

thank you kindly sir
