Summary

This is a replacement part for the Bodum Bistro Electric Burr Coffee Grinder (model 10903). This is the plastic ring that fits around the burr wheel and joins it to the hopper at the top. It appears you can order replacement parts for almost everything else in this machine, but not this ring.

Instructions

This was printed on a Replicator 2 with support and raft and fit with no modification. Insert the burr wheel into the ring, lock the ring into the grinder, and place the hopper into the opening of the ring.

This was done in completely parametric OpenSCAD. It is entirely possible your printer may have different tolerances than mine. If so and your part doesn't fit, just change the tolerances at the beginning of the scad file and re-render.

I printed one with std true blue makerbot filament and the bottom tabs snapped off right away, leaving me with a single setting grinder - which was better than a nonfunctioning one. A second copy made from another brand also failed. Looks like PLA is not up to this task - but the part fits perfectly!

I'd like to thank you. Very helpful. \

The only bad part of this Bodum grinder is this ring, and curiously they don't sell the part.

My ring is not yet fully damaged, but I'm constantly checking, knowing this I'm going to order the part in advance.

This is so great, thank you!

Thank you so much madl! I'll check with shapeways.

Thanks for creating this model.

One of the tabs on the original ring snapped off and I was left with a one setting grinder. I ordered this part from shapeways and snapped it on and I have a working grinder again.

The part cost about $7.

Hey Madl, what material did you use to get this printed? I asked Shapeways about food-safe materials and they said that the only material they had that was food safe was porcelain.

Did you just go with one of the plastics?

I used the white flexible plastic. There was also free shipping on the week that I ordered it so I paid $7 in total.

I wasn't really concerned about the food safe aspect as the coffee doesn't touch the plastic ring, the ring just allows you to control the distance of the burrs that the coffee passes through.

Interesting, ok. An acquaintance of mine who had done 3D printing before said that I should make sure it's food-safe, but, to be honest, that did seem a bit overly cautious to me.

Thanks for the info!

The material that most fused filament deposition printers puts is semi-porous, meaning that it can easily become a breeding ground for bacteria, even though the plastic itself is general non-toxic and fairly stable chemically (PLA can be used for surgical sutures!).

I would not worry about this particular application. The worst that you could ecpect might be rancid grinds on the bracket, but they should mostly brush off.

Also, did you select the design in millimeters? I'm assuming so as no design engineer I know would use inches, but I'm just double-checking

I'd like to order this replacement retainer ring. Can you produce one for me? How much will it cost?

Where did you find all the other parts? I'm looking to see if I can find a replacement burr myself!

It wasn't my grinder sadly, it was a friend's.

@jsadusk, just wanted to say Thanks for taking the time to design/upload this! My retainer ring recently broke and I was heartbroken about replacing my grinder. Now I have hope! :)

Hello fellow coffee drinker,

I was just browsing through google to see if I can get my hands on a replacement part for this ring.. it seems your blueprint's the closest i can find sofar. The problem is i don't know how to get my hands on a 3D printer, let alone figure out how to print one off a 3rd party online store.

I'm not sure about intellectual properties or how to go about uploading this to a store, so could you perhaps help me get set off on the right path to obtaining this ring? Also, if you (and this site allows it), could I possibly paypal you something for the ring?

Much thanks

Sorry for the late response, I've been a little busy. As a MakerBot employee, I'm probably required to say that if you don't know how to get a 3d printer, you can buy one from us.

That said, if you wanted, you could get a single print made from shapeways or find someone in the community to print one for you. Copyright doesn't apply particularly much here as I did not derive this design from any existing sources owned by Bodum. I did a clean room re-implementation of their part.

I hope you find a way to fix your coffee grinder.
