Summary

Attention! If using Cura make sure to uncheck the option "Scale large objects" found in Settings>General>Opening>Scale large objects or rescale the object to 100%. Failure to do so will result in a piece that won't fit.

I really liked the design of http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2069466 by 3r4th.

Remixed with a hexagon shape to match my board enclosure and keep my look consistent. I have not printed yet but should be just as good as the original by 3r4th. I recommend using their settings and recommendations below.

"Before you print make sure your printer is well calibrated. It is possible to print left and right at the same time but I would suggest print it single and measure it.
width: 90.7mm
Hight between the frame surfaces : 234mm

You have to disassemble the top of the printer and remove the x-axis stepper to it build in.

You can use and share the files as you want for no-commercial usage.

Nice work on this. Printed 2 sets for each of my a8's but I replaced the T corner brace with this but this does not have a slot for the rear brace to fit in so I'm actually getting more place than with this tiny t corner brace. Any chance you would be willing to add the slot or share the 3d file that you made?

I'm sorry this didn't meet your needs. You should have no problems taking my .stl file and remixing your own version as others have already done and as I did with the original. I used tinkercad to remix this. Feel free to do with it as you wish!

You can't even print this on this printer...Am I missing something? Psh...lame.

I believe so. This can certainly be printed on the A8. Flip on the side and orientate it so that it goes from corner to cover. There should be no problems fitting this on the stock bed.

I printed this and it also came out short. I made sure to set the scale to 100%. I thought "screw it" and hammered it onto my printer. I knew it was a bad idea and also my frame is cracked now. Don't be dumb like me.

Has anyone else had the issue where its 1.4mm short? Another person on the Anet Facebook page and I both had the brace come out 1.4mm short. I confirmed Cura did not auto scale prior to the print per the instructions. The other person printed 2 versions, and both were 1.4mm short.

I've tried to print this, but am having problems with the internal surfaces of the hexagons, all the makes look awesome, but I've just upgraded to skynet and am getting a lot of droop and curled filament on the overhangs, causing the print to be quite weak, anyone got any tips on what settings I can adjust?

so will this help with the slight banding i get in some parts of my prints? (it's not z wobble btw)

Is there anyway to install this without needing to pull the printer apart?

You only need to remove top brackets. Put masking take on either side of the nuts so they stay in place when you remove the screws. You won't have any try to roll away and you should be able to screw it back in without any fuss.

Removing top brackets only took me a few minutes and went pretty easily. There is no way to install without removing something.

Thanks for those! They were ultra tight to install but the stiffness of the frame is great now!

Yes you can! Stand up on it's side and rotate, it will fit! If you look at the original, round hole version, he has a pic on how to orient it on your bed.

just a note: if you print these with PETG, scale them up by ~0.5%
they were completely loose for me :(

How did you consider the one with the text to be printed? The middle part of several letters ('A', '8') is just hovering in space, right? And one would need support to print this...

I think just carving 2mm instead of punching through the whole material would be enough.

I originally had supports for the "floating" pieces in the text. Looks like when I split and uploaded again, they disappeared.

I will fix them as soon as I can today. I'll also make a punched version as you suggested while I'm messing with it.

I too went with the clean version myself.

Double check your scaling. I keep seeing people on the forums having issues where their slicing programs are automatically shrinking the frames.

when i set them at 100% scale the total length of the part seems to be about 280mm yet the installation height is closer to 230mm..... am I doing something wrong or is all good?

Yes, total height of the frame should actually be around 274mm as it the stability pieces wrap around the curved edges of the frame making it more solid and secure.

The height between the top and bottom frame pieces should be about 234mm.

Does that make sense? Sounds like you should be all good to go as long as your scale is at 100%!

I like your design and would like to print it, but you have both left and right in a single stl. Can you split them in 2 files like your original version is? I can't print 2 at once.

Fixed and split the Anet A8 version and split the clean as well.

That's how I felt about my first printer (Tronxy)....

I don't have the A6 but I believe the frames are different sizes.

Sorry, it's actually not my name. That is from the original person that created it. I can upload a new "clean" version if anyone wants it. I'm also working on another version with the "Anet" on one frame and "A8" on the other.

yeah, in my opinion a clean version would be nice. Why not both versions?

I'll upload a clean tonight and I'll hopefully have my "Anet A8" version done as well. I'll make that a clean one too.

Clean is up, still working on the Anet A8 added text version.

Thanks, I like your design. I have it in use for some prints, now.

My build area is slightly to small for these to print.. do you have any idea how to make them fit? Or do you just need a bigger glass bed?

These should just fit diagonally on the stock Anet A8 bed @ 220mm x 220mm. Make sure your slicer has the correct dimensions for your bed entered. I believe Cura defaulted mine at 200mm x 200mm.

Print on its side and you shouldn't need any supports or rafts if your printer is calibrated well. Maybe that's why it wasn't fitting in your slicing program?
