one of my very first designs, made in tinker cad and took about 4-5 hours because of many of the organelles taking a long time to build.
Overview and Background
This is a fairly detailed general eukaryotic cell (animal). It has all of the general organelles from Golgi bodies to ribosomes in accurate shapes and scaled to the size of the cell. This model can be printed to show middle schoolers an example of a cell in early science learning or it can be given during lectures to high schoolers so they can see and feel what is on the screen.
Lesson Plan and Activity
middle school: pass around pre printed cell and let children play with it to understand the workings of a cell.
high school: print out one object per person or per lab group and hand out during a lecture on cells, if you want punt numbers on the organelles that correspond to the lectures slides.
slideshow presenting class material
marker to label cell with numbers in you want
30-60minutes including lecture
prepare one labeled or non labeled cell model for each student or lab group
prepare powerpoint for lecture
printout with numbers for each organelle with blank space for filling its name in.
Rubric and Assessment
at the end of the lecture turn the power point off and give students the printout then give them 5 minutes to label each number with the correct name of the organelle
for middle schoolers this should not be graded just a learning activity
for high schoolers this activity can be graded or not graded according to your discretion and the classes ability level.
