Nice, but:

  • it is so close to stuff on the printer
  • it bends a lot and the stopper is very flat => make it higher
  • it introduces wobble to the device
  • high position is bad if the extroder is feeding from below

Made one, and it served it’s purpose right with the small spools that came with the printer itself. But when I hung a 1 kg spool from it, the weight warped my Z-axis, and the holder itself flexed a lot more than comfortable. It did not break, but did deform elastically to the point where I thought the roll would skip over the edge.
So now I decided to go with the TUSH concept instead, and take the load off my Z column.

I agree with ahowie111 - this thing is not strong enough to hold up a 1kg spool. In addition, it is about 20 mm longer than it needs to be, which means that the torque on the base is more than it needs to be. I used a 40% infill and PLA.

Thanks! This was my first print that was not a calibration block. Now I am not using a cardboard box with a screw driver to run my spool. I will post pix later.

Didn't last long under the weight of a spool. Snapped at the base.

Hi dear, I follow you on Youtube since long time.
Do not use this sistem to hold the spool since this will cause bending on the frame, wobbling and a worst print quality
trust me, I already tried.
