They came out about 5mm short for my spools. Going to make some bigger ones and try it again.

Could you separate the base in two parts, the stem and the round base? The stem works like a screw, therefore stress is along the stem, just its weakest axis. In theory, the stem should be printed horizontaly. It makes it stronger in the axis where it will get the most stress.

seems that the scaling is wrong for the connection piece, handle, etc. I wish someone had noted that before I wasted 5 hours ...

I'm not sure what to say. I didn't scale the files at all, & uploaded what I printed from & they worked fine for me (pictured above)

I will doublecheck my slicer settings and try again.

Top and base files are broke and incomplete it seems

Agree with this, neither file looks at all right in cura

I opened the files in Meshmixer. The top and base file are actually 3 stl's that needed to be combined for each file. Cura is only picking up the top stl and not the middle or bottom (If that makes sense). If you have Meshmixer give it a try. Hold shift while clicking all the files to combine then combine them and export. Hope this helps.
