Anyone know if this will work with the Bondtech BMG Clones like on Ali for 25 bucks? I am on a budget and they appear identical minus not having a supporting Bracket. I addition How is this holding up with PLA or ABS.

You'll have to remove the bottom bowden connector on the clones to get it to fit, and you may have to drill out a couple holes on the print depending on your print quality, but it seems to work okay. My only complaint wrt the design is that the little bit that holds the breakout board for the ribbon cable is a bit of a tight fit against the stepper connection, and it's kind of fragile when put under stress. Will be modeling and printing a remix. I also stuck a bit of PTFE into the bottom of the print to make everything go smoother.

So, after 1-2 months of use,

  • would you now recommend this extruder?
  • anything you would do differently?
  • what material did you use?

I'm also interested in this.

I went ahead and got this. results so far:
1) yes, I would highly recommend, there is 100x more control, I can now print at 3x speed and volume, etc
2) yes, the STL file needs to be re-done (BMG touches frame, wrong screw head well, etc.), but it is still usable
3) I used PLA and plan to re-do it with NYLON

i'm waiting for the extruder...
Can i ask you for a S3D profile configuration??

Thanks in advance.

I am using cura, and have no s3d profile.

Thanks! I ordered one yesterday. Don't know if this existed when you published this thing, but there is now a complete kit for D6: http://shop.bondtech.se/ec/upgrade-kits/wanhao/extruder-upgrade-kit-wanhao-d6.html

thank you - the kit is new, but now I will try a bowden first, to see if I can reclaim build space and increase speed + accuracy

How is it holding up for you after some time with it?
