Summary

This is a modified extruder body as well as extruder idler to allow your MK2s or MK2s clone to use a more standardized MK8 hobbed bolt. It shifts the motor mounting points over by 1mm to make room for proper alignment of the filament into the PTFE tube. (MK8 hobbed bolt has an effective diameter of 7.5mm, whereas the prusa one was only 6mm)

In Tom's "MK2 clone" build series on youtube, he drilled his holes out slightly to allow for his motor to be better aligned, but it still wasn't perfect and his extruder motor was not properly aligned. This solves that problem.

I'm printing now and will confirm, but it looks like the top motor mounting hole now does not line up with the stock MK2S carriage. If so, I can probably make and upload a remix of that part.

It lines up just fine - I built my printer with this and the standard MK2S carriage.

If you moved the 3 holes on the extruder body, but not the one on the top of the x-carriage, how does it line up? You must be using a shorter screw on the top hole that does not go through the x-carriage.

Can you upload your scad file so I can find the correct hole placement to update the carriage?

Do you know if the tension springs distance should remain the same as with the original prusa gear ~ 13mm?

Nice work HeartFoxx! Sorry for asking, but can you make version of this for 18 mm sensor LJ18A3-8-Z/BX (datasheet http://www.ekt2.com/pdf/14_PROXIMITY_INDUCTIVE_18EX.pdf)

Thanks!

Thanks for the info.

Hey, does the longer probe fit ok in your version? What changed on the idler?

This probe here (https://www.aliexpress.com/item/M8-2mm-sensing-DC-three-wires-NO-LJ8A3-2-Z-BX-5V-cylinder-inductive-proximity-sensor/32568347298.html?spm=2114.13010608.0.0.WtrbD0) fits just fine with a bit of clever cable routing. You could theoretically just nip off the cable management tab if it gets in your way. :) The changes to the idler are that A) it's using Tom's simplified version, and B) I had to move the screw hole over a bit so that it could still rotate down properly with my other changes.

Where can I get the STLs for the front and rear y axis you used on your imgur post? If you designed them can you put them up? I'm also building the Toms3D clone. Waiting for plastic pieces, since I don't have any access to a 3d printer. But I have everything else.

I'm sorry, I didn't see this! Here are those front/rear y axis parts: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1850161. They help immensely during assembly but aren't necessary by any means. They replace the y corner brackets.

Looks really Great - just what i need. can you also make a remix with http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2144068 so you can attach the BLTouch instead of the pinda ?

BLTouch for Original Prusa i3 MK2

Thanks! I'll look into doing the BLTouch integration later this week or maybe this weekend.

That will be so much appreciated :-)))

Hey! Sorry it took so long. I finally made the remix you asked for. :) http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2303211
