Freecad files for modifications are in this file "final_freecad_files_no_window.rar"

Hello! Any chance you'd be willing to release editable files of this case? It's great, but I'd love to make some modifications to it for my purposes. If not, that's okay, too. Thanks :)

hi biermeister

thanks for your feedback, you find these cheap 18650 powerbank easy via aliexpress, search for "18650 5v 1a battery" and max price 1.5 usd, you get them as low as 1 usd https://de.aliexpress.com/wholesale?minPrice=&maxPrice=1.5&isBigSale=n&isFreeShip=n&isNew=n&isFavorite=n&isMobileExclusive=n&isLocalReturn=n&shipCountry=CH&shipFromCountry=&shipCompanies=&SearchText=18650+5v+1a+battery&CatId=0&g=y&initiative_id=SB_20180202072730&needQuery=y .

you can use any 18650 li-ion battery, these panasonic ncr18650b are very good and have a nice price. the pcb you found via amazon should also work fine, simply look that it's not to thick.

greetings and have fun with your project

This is quite brilliant! I must make one. I was looking for a nice integrated Pi Zero W w/ battery box, I love your escape from Adafruit 2x prices with this battery idea! It would be helpful if you could point to known sources or examples of viable parts for electrical and mechanical compatibility (you don't mention the size of the charger module you used).

I see that we can really cheaply buy something like this: https://www.amazon.com/XCSOURCE-Lithium-Battery-Charger-TE585/dp/B01LZSC7I8/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_sims?ie=UTF8, and this: https://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-NCR18650B-Rechargeable-Battery-3400mAh/dp/B00DHXY72O/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1517014615&sr=8-5&keywords=18650+battery+ncr

Actually, you list separate parts but seem to say you took apart a portable charger product, but I can't find one that actually says what battery is inside. Recommendations? Otherwise, we would need to find the spring part elsewhere, and by the way I happen to have one of h these old (dead) chargers lying around, and there is no spring, it's just soldered and enclosed.

I may evolve your idea into a similar box with provision for the camera to make a portable powered camera this way.

Thanks!

How will the battery last? And will it run while charging?

battery last for 13h streaming redbook files from nas, should be longer playing local stored files. runeaudio is optimized for sound quality not power saving, if you use volumio the power consumption is ~25% less and so will play over 15h (but the boot time of volumio is also much longer). it will not run while charging, the step-up converter / charger from the 18650 powerbank is a real simple one, switches the power of when you plug in the micro usb for charging.
