This knot was created by exporting a model from KnotPlot and then adding extrusions to each mesh face in TopMod, then printed with an Ultimaker 3 using dissolvable PVA supports (the second picture shows the newly-printed knot in a bucket being filled with water).

I loved the prime tower lego & the write-up. Clever suggestion about using PVA for the support interface - not sure if Simplify3D can do this?

I'm not sure about Simplify3D but I've heard that Cura can do this. My concern is that sometimes PVA-over-PLA isn't a strong bond (which I think is a reason that the prime tower falls over), so the support interface might not stick well enough to the supports and you could have a fail at that point? I'll let you know when I try it...
