Hi Brand new to optics. What do I use for a track?
BTW: they printed fine (the lens holders)

I used V-Slot aluminum extrusions from OpenBuilds (https://openbuildspartstore.com/v-slot-linear-rail-1/), but that's just because it's what I had on hand. Should work with any generic 80/20 extrusions.

It'd also be pretty simple to change the bottom section to mount to a custom rail, thread into pegboard, etc.. Goodluck!

Great work! I have the exact same situation, i.e. want to do a small optic project and do not want to pay a lot for an expensive optic bench! Just a short question, what was your nozzle size? 0.4 or smaller?

Hope they work out for you!

IIRC I printed with both 0.2 and 0.4mm nozzles. I think the 0.2 gave a nicer fit/finish, but the 0.4mm worked just fine too. The layer height seemed to be more important than nozzle, since none of the dimensions really needed a small nozzle but small layer height helped with the v-grooves in the clamps. I think the photos above only had one surface layer though, which is why they look a bit porous. I'd probably bump surface layers to two or three.

Depending on the calibration of your printer relative to mine, you may want to fiddle with the tolerance settings in the scad file (e.g. to make the screws fit tighter/looser, etc)

What material is used in the example model? Maybe it's the lighting in the picture, but I love the color!

Thanks! The color is "Khaki", and the PLA is the stock stuff that came with my printer. Other people have asked Tiertime where to buy the PLA but they have responded saying it's an "inhouse" brand and not for sale elsewhere (yet). So dunno if they actually extrude it, or if it's white-labeled from somewhere else :/

Ok, thanks for the info. I'll see if I can find something similar.
