If you are using the Filastruder + FilaWinder combo and extruding 3mm filament, then you will quickly realize how difficult it is for the servo motor (which controls the filament guide) to guide the filament from the left of the spool to the right, because of how stiff 3mm filament is, as opposed to 1.75mm. This puts a lot of stress on the motor and it eventually stops moving the filament guide, and all the filament gets bunched up in the middle of the spool.
This base extension fixes this problem by increasing the distance from the filament guide to the PTFE tube, thus making it far easier for the servo motor to move the filament guide its entire course.
Print with at least 40% infill. PLA or ABS. 3 perimeters.
Because of the added length to the base and the heavy force of the motor creating a lot of pull on the filament through the PTFE tube, this causes the extension to bend quite a bit. So a 4mm hole is placed near the bottom of the extension, allowing you to screw it into the wall (or if you have a horizontal setup, into whatever material you have it sitting on). You can make the hole slightly bigger if needed.
