Summary

As a lifelong chess enthusiast and chess coach I've longed for a complete, 3D printable chess set. However, most 3D printable chess sets don't have a suitable chessboard available for them. By "suitable" I mean that, if they do include a board with the pieces, the pieces usually do not follow the all important "75% Guideline" for sizing chess pieces to a chessboard. And, if one simply 3D prints their favorite chess pieces along with their favorite chessboard, then most likely the pieces will not look as if they fit the board properly. You may view a detailed write-up about the 75% Guideline here to get a better understanding of the problem: http://www.chessusa.com/chess-pieces-size.html

I really enjoyed simonparish's work on his version of a Man Ray chess set, but it needed a good chessboard to complement it. That's when I found Adafruit's 3D Printed Chess Set, which had - in my opinion - the perfect board for the pieces. Since I liked the size of the Adafruit chessboard, I decided to resize the Man Ray pieces to the Adafruit chessboard following the 75% Guideline as best I could.

Note that I printed the pieces with 100% infill. The reason for this is to add a decent amount of weight to the pieces for optimum playability without having to modify the pieces to allow for the addition of any kind of added weight. Once everything is printed, I suggest you purchase some sticky felt and felt the bottoms of the pieces for an even greater quality playing experience.

If you're a chess enthusiast like myself, and enjoy the art of chess, then I believe you will enjoy this remix of these two great Things. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have!
