Looked like a mess once printed but surprisingly it came off the bed OK and after a bit of gentle fiddling, it works really well

Nice job! I actually modeled several scale mail designs similar to this last year. One was hexagonal, one was quadrilateral, and one was triangular. It's interesting to see how you added more reinforcement around the top of the part. I was considering doing that myself, but decided that it would be difficult to do that without causing overhang issues in the restricted space. Didn't want to restrict movement. I'm probably going to test this design out.



Is there a way to join multiple, separately printed pieces?

This is amazing! You can only push one science so far until you max it out, then it is completely taken over by a new science that pushes modern day technology into the next level. 3D printing is to welding as DVD is to streaming. Sorry to state the obvious but it's nice to take a moment and realize how lucky we are to be alive in the 100 year span that this is happening.
