This kit will add rigidity to your Wanhao i3 V1/V2/V2.1 , Monoprice Select V1/V2, Cocoon Create and other Wanhao Rebranded Clones of this style.
First Thank you for all that downloaded and Installed my front mounted version of this kit.
Second, for all those that have asked for mods to the original kit I have kept you in mind and is all on a list for the future.
This Mod was created after a year of living with my first design that was a build on a concept. This mod came from the need to access my build plate without having to work around the Z-Rods hoping I didn't hit them or bend them.
My Goal was to create a Z-Brace Mod that was easy for the beginner to install and not have to drill or change any features about the printer itself.
So here we are 1 year later with SWD2 Rear Mount Z-Brace.
Do you need a rear mount z-brace?
Maybe not but its cool.
Do you need a z-brace in General a resounding "YES" is the answer.
This rear mount functions exactly like my previous creation.
It stabilizes your z axis so that it is square and does not vibrate creating any ringing in prints or warping of the frame.
Do you need to struggle and try to print this yourself?
No, as I have partnered with Ultimate3dPrintingStore to offer both the Hardware and Printed parts for this for those that are new and struggling to get started.
Finally this is a rock solid design that incorporates the use of rods to stabilize the printer and for those that have uneven surfaces you are setting your printer on there is levelers.
Please Note: the Levelers are an optional Install but does come with the kit offered by U3DS.

Printed on Wanhao I3 Duplicator with the following mods.
SWD1 KIT Z-AXIS FOR WANHAO DUPLICATOR I3 / MONOPRICE MAKER SELECT
Can be printed on stock build tack plate (I printed on Glass using binder clips)
Stock Extruder Set up
No other mods on printer.
Tested in both Cura and S3D
1.75mm Retraction Distance
35mm Retraction speed
Top and Bottom layers good at 3 better at 4
Current Print time for All parts on one build
15% infill is 18hrs +/-
30% infill is 22hrs +/-
40% infill is 24hrs +/-
Just to give you a range.
Support Clean Up
Clean up will involve removing the supports prior to install.
The supports were needed to have a clean set of bolt attachments.
Will add more info here but was designed In Inventor.
Additional Parts List
2) 5/16 Threaded Rod @ 375mm long
or 8mm Threaded Rod @ 375mm long
4) 5/16 Nylock Nuts - Replace with 8mm Nuts if using 8mm Rod
4) 5/16 Standard Nuts- Replace with 8mm Nuts if using 8mm Rod
26)M3 x 10mm Socket Cap Screws- Used to replace and attach feet and z-mount m3 screws.
6) 1/4-20 nuts-Used with Leveler Setup
6) 1/4-20 Elevator bolts 1" long-Used with Leveler Setup
6) 1" Dia x 1/8th thick Rubber pads (added to bottom of elevator bolts)
Ensure Threaded rods are Cut to 370mm and 380mm in length.
Remove 3) M3x5 screws on front of y axis on one side.
Mount New Bracket and replace with 3) M3x10mm screws
Repeat for opposite side. Be sure to use the blocks for the front of the
printer please refer to Primary Image.
Then repeat for rear blocks usng the winged parts for the rods.
Remove 2) M3 x5mm screws on the bottom of the z-axis tower. Bottom 2 screws
install the center feet with 2) M3x10mm screws each ctr foot.
Repeat for opposite side.
Install 6) 1/4-20 nuts in the blocks for the elevator bolts, When you look at the bottom of
the blocks you will see the recess for the nuts.
Then install 6 Elevator bolts in the 1/4-20 nuts that should now be embedded
in the bottom of the blocks.
Prep the Threaded Rods for Install. Attach 1 5/16 nylock nut to one end of the rod,
thread it on the rod until 1/4 inch of rod is exposed past the nut. Do this to
Position the printer so that one side allows the blocks with wings to hang over the edge
of the table so that you may slide the rods in from the bottom of the block.
Slide the threaded rods up through the block from the bottom approximately half way
between the z-tower and the wing block. Install in this sequence 1 5/16 nut, 1
nut cap, (to cover the lower 5/16 nut, Invert the next nut cap, 1) 5/16 nut above
the two nut caps.
- Remove the two M3 bolts on the Side at the top of the Z-axis tower, Slide z-axis mount
until it lines up with the two side holes and replace with M3 x 10 screws.
Repeat for opposite side.
9 Slide Rod up and through the Z-axis mount until the Nylock 5/16 Nut seats in the lower
block. Tighten the lower 5/16 nut down to secure the bottom section. Use the
Nylock Nut Cap to tighten the nut.
To Finalize the install add a final 5/16 nut on the top end of the brace mount on the z-
axis ( adjust and square printer and tighten down the last two nuts at the top of
the z-axis ) attach top cap with 2) M3 x 10mm screws on each side to complete
- Adjust and level Machine accordingly.

Run the nylock nut up on the threaded rod as shown.
After installing the center two nuts and caps on the rod tighten the nut until the nylock nut seats in the tube.
