I recently decided to make myself a silicone hookah hose. At first, I was going to just replace the tubing on an old Nu-Hose with silicone, and then I decided to take it a step further.
This design is meant to be printed in three pieces; an end piece to connect to your hookah, and two pieces which can be put together to produce a small hand wand to draw from.
The end piece and the bottom half of the draw wand come in two versions each, one set will fit into a 3/8" inner diameter length of silicone tubing, the other will fit into a 1/2" inner diameter length of silicone tubing. This is to accommodate your desired draw restriction.
You can find me on Hookah Pro @ MysticHaze.
Due to the precarious nature of tall cylinders, you may wish to print at a reduced speed. I went for a 50% infill to increase durability in order to withstand the abuse of being passed around at hookah sessions. Since this piece included interlocking parts, you may wish to print at a slightly lower flow rate than usual.
Turning these components into a hose.
Once you've printed your three pieces, you'll need to turn them into a hose.
Begin by assembling your wand. The top half of the wand should fit snugly into the bottom piece, creating one airtight piece. If it does not fit you may need to adjust your flow settings, I generally print interlocking components at 80 to 85 percent flow. Alternatively, you could sand it until it fits. Friction should suffice to keep the wand together and airtight, but if you find otherwise I would recommend using a nontoxic adhesive to seal it further.
Once your wand is assembled, take the silicone tubing of your choice and cut it to the desired length. I generally cut between five and six feet for ease of passing. If you've matched the inner diameter to the proper component size, the hose should slide on with minimal resistance. Once again, friction should suffice to keep the hose in place. However, if you wish for added security, you could put a band around the points where the tubing connects to the ends. I usually wrap the connection point in parachute cord for cosmetic appeal and added security while passing the hose.
