This project began as a prototype & then manufacturing service for Yuni (http://www.yuniheadphones.com/), which is attempting to build a set of stereo headphones for people with unilateral hearing loss. The Yuni has two distinct ear cups; one with two speakers in them angled at the ear to preserve separation of L/R channels, and one dummy cup with nothing in it. This version, called the Duli, is this original project adapted for un-impaired dual-hearing use (standard headphones).
Yunis can be purchased from the link, but Dulis are not yet for sale (until we're completely caught up on the Yunis!)

NOTE: to make this a little easier, I have put together a listing on Tindie to ship the full kit of vitamins together:
Vitamin Bill Of Materials:

  • Speaker drivers x2 -- $8.76 via digikey
  • Foam ear pads x2 -- $5.49 via amazon
  • 1/8th inch jacks x2 $3.00 via radioshack
  • 1/8th inch y-cable $4.39 via we-supply
    There definitely could be better deals than these, and you can reduce the material cost buying in bulk. But buying piecemeal, the full vitamin BOM should cost about $22, plus whatever shipping. And then of course the plastic for the printed parts.

    There are two types of headbands here, and it's because the headbands are quite large prints. Originally, it was designed to fit on the Replicator 1. So the headband was split and printed in halves, joined by a dovetail joint. But these were not coming out consistent, so we have switched to printing the headband in one full go on a Rostock Max.
    The headband is not adjustable, so if you find the fit to be too small or two large, you can export a different size. If you need any help with the OpenSCAD just let me know!
    You will need 4 small lengths of wire, with at least the ends stripped. You will need to do just a tad of soldering... connecting the 1/8th inch jacks to their respective speaker drivers. Both things have a polarity to mind -- on the back of the speaker driver there are two pre-soldered pads. The one on the right has a red dot, indicating that it is positive.

The headband is the hardest print, I'm going to try to redesign it to be printed in smaller pieces..

Hey your .scad file can not be compiled because is missing 3 files. I search for two of them but for the file "pins_v3.scad" no success. I cud not find this file anywhere else or something similar can you post also these files or at list the pins_v3.scad ? Or do you have a link for it?

Hey, thanks for your note! The DXF for the ear covers is actually used in the generation of the ear cup STL. The foam pads are a vitamin you have to order unfortunately; and the rest of the ear cup & cover are both 3D printed.

How do you make the ear covers from the pattern provided? Do I cut out vinyl in that shape and glue it to the ear cover caps? I have headphones with rotting foam and I want to make these headphones, especially since they're easily replaceable with 3D printing.
