The pod deck is to fit inside the wonderful model Discovery from 2001 (XD-1).
This is a modelling project combining 3d printed parts and leds with a PIR.
I used pla nozzle temp 210 and a bed temp 50
The size of my bits are to fit 1.3 the size of XD-1 which makes the overall size 5FT. The front dome is sliced and the rear part assembled with the collar the pod bay is a free 3dmax file I modified.Cutting the plastic with a vibrating multi tool is straight forward. The pod door is drilled all round the outside with a small drill and popped out. The observation deck is cut away and the glazing bars are replaced by a small piece of .175 filament the a piece of milk bottle plastic put in for glass a small soldering iron is a useful tool for this.
Bowman looking out is any small figure printed and stuck in place with the iron. A spray of paint on the inside stops light from leds coming thought hull. The spacesuits are the same figure. The claw on the pod are chunky but at the right size it works great there are some great pod models on thingiverse to stick them onto again the iron is the tool, printing the pod hollow an fitting the led's is a fiddle.
There are three leds on the observation deck and 4 on the pod deck and 4 in the pod a pir switches it on and off it works with my brackets.
using 123d and free 3dmax files
I am learning, my modelling skills are better than 3d designing
