v10 Update: Leorex point out that there were some errors with this mesh. I've cleaned up the model and uploaded it as v10. Everything should work fine now.

I've been carrying around my previously designed money clip (see derivative list) for 11 months now and it's held up like a champ. That does not mean of course that there is no room for improvement.

I took br3ttb's always popular Coin-Op Bottle Opener and merged it with my money clip. Now you get two things for the price of one!

More details, photos and thoughts on iterative design in this blog post:

  1. Print at 90% infill for strength
  2. Insert penny
  3. Insert credit cards/cash
  4. Open beer
  5. Insert beer in mouth

printed it and the penny fits fine the design is pretty good but I think is too thick and unless you are carrying just the right amount of money it either falls or doesn't fit as there is not much flexibility

I guess if you want to replace your wallet and carry 2 credit cards you id and more than 10 bills it works fine. I do love the concept

Very cool but was disappointed to find the penny did not even go in halfway and attempted use of a dime actually broke it (at 90% infill). I may try again printing ~5-10% larger, as I know that is a problem with my printer.

It broke the beer's seal though!

I have found, you can't use too much force with any of these type of openers, you have to use a bit of finesse or they will break. This one maybe more so than the others since the stratification is more inline with the force, as opposed to one that was printed flat down on the bed.

Printing at 90%+ infill helps a lot.

I forgot on one print and printed it at MakerWare defaults (10%) ... it pretty much exploded in my hand when I tried to open a bottle. When I print it at 90% in ABS it lasts until the penny is too bent to function anymore.

Printer interface warning: "The model has overlapping or self-intersecting facets. I tried to repair it, however you might want to check the results or repair the input file and retry." :-(

And repair with netfabb didn't help, either.

Thanks for the heads up, I've cleaned up the model and uploaded it as v10. Everything should work fine now.

I printed this out and found it to be a disappointment. It is much too thick to be practical in your pocket. It has a gap too thick unless you've got a wad of cash and credit cards, and the penny slot didn't come out clear enough to actually accommodate a penny. This is a great idea, but the design needs to be refined. I printed it out with a Replicator 2 using PLA. Maybe it has worked better with other printers and plastics???

Sorry to hear it's not working for you, I've been carrying mine since June of last year and it's held up pretty well. The penny is showing more wear than the ABS!

It's been awhile since I used it but this previous design might be slimmer. http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:9901http://www.thingiverse.com/thi...

How do you prevent warping on your bottle openers? Mine always warps unless I use 15 percent fill, but at 15 percent fill, it breaks too easily and cannot open bottles.

I haven't had any warping issues on my prints at 90% fill. Not sure what could be causing that. What kind of printer are you using?

Add somewhere to wind your headphones onto it and this will be a triple function killer print.

Hah! Just a few more additions before it's a swiss army clip.
