ThingPro - The 3D Printed 3-Way Selfie Stick
This is selfie stick that I designed for use with my GoPro Hero 6 Black but it can potentially be used for any camera or phone with the proper mount.
It is essentially the same as the GoPro 3-Way with some modifications to allow for 3D printing.
I am going to try and keep improving this design over time, so I appreciate any feedback or comments that the community has.
My next improvement is to encapsulate a tri-pod within the handle of the stick as the GoPro 3-way does.
Hero 4 not included. :)
I sliced this with Simplify3D with supports in all of the holes and under some of the small overhangs.
I printed this in PLA without rafts using painters tape and a glue stick in order to prevent warping which can be a challenge due the geometry of extension 1 & 2.
This design is meant to use a couple off the shelf items in conjunction with the 3D printed parts.
- M5x1.5 Heat Insert (QTY. 3):
The ones that I used are from McMaster Carr and can be found here: https://www.mcmaster.com/#94180a361/=19z0v2k
The stick is designed to accept inserts with these dimensions so be careful.
Use a soldering gun to melt these into each arm.
- M5x1.5x30mm Threaded Rod (QTY. 2):
Again, the ones I used are from McMaster Carr and can be found here: https://www.mcmaster.com/#90435a104/=19z0wgm
A word of caution - I cut the equivalent threads into the Knob to accept these rods but they are a bit tight and require some finesse to install. The threaded rod should stick out approx. 16.5mm from the end of the knob. I used Loctite 425 to ensure the rods stay in the Knobs!
