I took Shinns' model and modified the front with a larger cutout for USB extension cables (rear is still the same).
I purchased two Amazon Basics USB Extension cables here:
There may be dual usb panel mounts that would fit as well but this I already had spares of these cables from a prior project. These cables work well though because they are just the right size where they rub against the left and right side of the housing when inserted.
Modification will need to be done to the cables in order for them to sit properly. It might not be apparent in the photo but since the USB cables have rounded edges I smoothed/sanded down 1 side of each cable and glued them together. That way the sides that face each other in the housing appear seamless. I also removed the amazon badges to ensure they fit properly.
I then glued the cables and the front plate of the housing together all at once. I have been using this for a couple weeks now and everything appears to be holding fine.
Update: Added a couple more photos showing how I modified the USB cables and what it looks like installed. I smoothed out one side of each cable and then joined glued them together. Remember to do the opposite side of each cable so that the orientation of both remains the same.
Update 2: Designed a faceplate. The faceplate is completely flat/smooth but I cut out some small symbols out of vinyl which is what you see in the most recent uploaded photos.
