Would you consider splitting the base into a separate file so we can print it in black?

I'd also like to be able to print just the car.

Hey, Fred. Done and done! Added them to the files. Splitting like that is super easy. I use Meshmixer or 3dBuilder (the app that comes with Windows 10), both are free too.

Thanks! I tried opening the the STL in Blender, but it would have taken me a while to figure that out. I will look into the other ones you mentioned.

EggStrodanary, I have a model in the works that looks very similar

albiet mine is more 50's modern, but the egg shaped space pod looks

alot like it.

Haha, thanks man! I'd love to see your version, you do 50s retro exceedingly well. I love the style, myself. There's a donut/coffee shop across the street from me that was opened by a 50s sci-fi nut, so every time I go in there its a huge burst of inspiration in that direction. But yeah, these are more 5th Element than Forbidden Planet.

I'm working on a ton of these and trying to find ways to do more interesting paint jobs. Cab, police car, dump truck and school bus are next. Oh, and I've printed a larger version which I still need to paint up.

i have been looking into better paint myself

i just got a airbrush but i have yet to get it to work with acrylics, i may have to go to the enamel type of paint. i had a nice little compressor so it was not a huge investment.

also they make this stuff that is a paint on mask (i have seen it at hobby stores)

you paint it on, cut with a x-acto peel off and then paint, then peel the mask off to get nice lines. It peels off pretty easilly on smooth surfaces, haven't tried it

on FFF ABS which might grab it more than smooth styrene. but thats another thing i am investigating.

this has a good description on the masking stuff
