This is a small box that is printed in one piece.
I designed it as a fly fishing box but it can be used for all kinds of stuff.
There are different versions, also without the trout on the cover, which are going to be updated since its a work in progress project.
There are basically two different boxes of the same size but with different lock mechanisms. The one has a clip and is ready to use after printing, there are no further materials need, except for the foam if you want.
The other one has a magnetic locking mechanism using 8 small 5x3x2mm neodym magnets.
I added a few new files with reworked versions of the box.
The hinges on all box are different now and I changed the magnet version a bit.
There is also a new box with a shrimp on the cover.
The material needed for the magnet box:
- 8x 5x3x2mm neodym magnets
- selfadhesive foam sheet 2-5mm thick
I used a brim of 10mm width to prevent the bottom plane from warping.
Supports are only needed for the magnet version.
On the version with the clip you might have to smothen the contact surfaces of the clip mechanism to make it work smoothly.
I used a lighter to heat up the hollow where the clip catches and worked it a few times while it was still hot.
But be carefull, don't use too much heat.
Alternatively some sandpaper should work as well.
Insert the magnets on one side of the box first, if the magnets sit in the pockets too loose use some superglue. I used small nose pliers to insert the magnets into the pockets.
After that place a second magnet on top of each inserted magnet and mark the side facing upwards.
This makes it easier to insert them on the other side with the right orientation.
Then repeat the whole process for the other side.
If you want to use the box for flyfishing you might want to attach a foam pad to both pieces.
Cut out two pieces 95x60mm and trimm the corners a little bit to make it fit.
I used selfadhesive foam sheets with a thickness of 2 and 5mm.
