Summary

Model of Hyrule Castle Grounds from The Legend of Zelda - Breath of the Wild as seen in the map view. Interestingly enough when made solid it's clear that the map view does not show any damage to the castle or grounds.

Sidenote: The map in the game is so difficult to decipher that I may print this just to navigate in the game haha :)

I wonder how accurate it would print at 4 times this size and if it would be possible to print in pieces and assemble with glue??

You could definitely split this model and glue it back together. Superglue works very well for this. Meshmixer has a nice feature for splitting models. Accuracy of a 3d print is dependent on the quality of your printer and will not change when scaling, especially scaling up.

I made one of these, and it turned out amazing (#Nerdgasm)! I'm building a display base for my print, and want to display some of the information about it. Do you know the approximate scale of the STL?

Post pictures! I'd love to see it!

That's a tricky question to answer and here's why...

The game models are all scaled to one another and the castle grounds was very small when I first loaded it, so I'm going to assume that everything gets scaled up during gameplay. What scale are you looking for? There's no point of reference in the game to measure it against (take Link's exact height for example). I'm not positive but I think I actually scaled this up from the original model in the game. I will check and get back to you but I'm not sure if that's what you're looking for.

Now I want to print the entire map from that game, and every other game for that matter! If only I knew how to extract and convert the data.

Not sure if I can extract the entire map. The reason I could extract this is because the model is used as the “see through” map in the game. I will check though. I’d love to be able to extract other parts of the map (Rito Village is one example). I’ll look into it! Extracting the meshes are simple and there are guides on YouTube for how to do it, but turning the mesh into a solid printable model is difficult.

Wait, does that mean you are able to extract the divine beast maps as well?

As I was writing the post above I was wondering the same thing lol I'm going to check the next chance I get because an accurate model of the beasts would make for an amazing print.

Agreed! Keep us in the loop if you're able to do it.

UPDATE - I have managed to create a model of my first divine beast - vah medoh.

https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2796998

The game's divine beast models were broken into a TON of small pieces. Each had to be converted, repaired and smoothed before they were pieced together to make the final model. The original one I made had all of the details of the INSIDE of the beast which was awesome, but I'm worried it won't print well. Two models are included in that link, one solid and one hollow with the inside details. If you or anyone has a chance to try either of them PLEASE post the results. I'm going to work this weekend to get the rest of the beasts uploaded.

Zelda - Breath of the Wild - Divine Beast Vah Medoh

Awesome! That was fast. I will try sharing anything if it turns out decent.

I like this one too.
