Lets take this a step further and put a 'thing' up here that has a small dent for the hotend.. and square box for the sensor.. with exactly a 0.5mm gap between hotend and sensor end.. and 0.25 mm gap between floor of nozzle and bed surface

in theory you then configure the offset in the firmware on the menu to be0.75mm and you should have a perfect mesh bed level..

(while you are at it lets properly model the whole hotend.. as its delivered from the factory so we can model mods off it) i am working on this . .we can collab in fusion360)

SOMETHING LIKE THIS ( MAY NOT BE PERFECT FIRST ROUGH DRAFT IN TIKERCAD
SORRY CAPS

If the offset is negative, does it mean that the Z-probe sensor is below the extruder level?

oh, what is your 3d printer? (Mine is Tronxy P802MA)
my printer doesn't allow user to decrease its number under 0.5.
I think you are right.
