I made some classroom manipulative to help my students who struggle with understanding how to balance ions.
If you a teacher who needs one more way to demonstrate this skill, a parent with a child who needs extra help on this section or a student yourself and you need to better understand how to balance ions, then this is for you!
Once printed I used a sharpie to colour the top surface black to make it stand out better, if you had the time and ULTIMATE will power you could change filament to a contrasting colour for the top 3-4 layers.
Overview and Background
This is a manipulative to help students learn what can be an abstract concept of balancing ions in a concrete manner. Using these blocks there is no way the student can not find the correct number of ions to balance the compound.
Lesson Plan and Activity
Use as part of an activity, I would create a worksheet that uses the ions in this kit to help them practice, once they have done it a couple times students usually get the hang of it.
Just the ions and perhaps a table / worksheet for them to complete using the blocks.
Just print the blocks and prepare a worksheet.
