Hi Ferjerez,

I have been printing this for 2 days now through CURA and the vase is still being printed as a solid base. Its about 2" tall now with now hollow centre. When do the sides start printing only and the centre is hollow? I hope I haven't missed a step? Whats this "vase mode" you speak of, as I didn't see that mode in CURA?

In Cura, this is called "Spiralize Outer Contour" in the Special Modes section.

I believe you forgot to select vase mode which hollows the interior! I hope it isnt still going!!

Thanks Ferjerez

If I can produce any good generative 3D items, I will upload the results here, with a thank you to you!

you're wellcome. Good luck ;)

Love these vases! Do you have any info / links to tutorials or libraries for how you get from your processing code output showing 3D graphics on screen to gcode suitable for 3D print? I have simplify3D. Any info gratefully received!

If you ask me about generating the STL for print:
First: In Processing (www.processing.org) you can export to .OBJ using the 'objexport' library from nervous systems. Link: https://n-e-r-v-o-u-s.com/tools/obj/
Second, use Meshmixer or 3dBuilder to convert to STL.

If you wand to print properly the figure, in S3D try the 'vasemode' option and it generates a piece with no roof, no infill and one perimeter. Links: https://forum.simplify3d.com/viewtopic.php?t=1999

Hi Ferjerez - Wow. Thanks for the ultra-quick reply! Is your code available for viewing (so that I can try to dig into it and understand how it works)? No worries if its private, I totally understand.

I'm fairly new to Processing in general, but I really want to get in to how to use it for Generative modelling & 3D printing. I did start playing around with coding in Processing using links such as http://www.instructables.com/id/Generative-3d-Printing-with-Processing/ and http://freeartbureau.org/fab_activity/hemesh-3d-printing/ but didn't get very far to be honest.

Do you know of any online tutorials / YouTube videos covering "all" stages from the initial basic generative algorithm in Processing right through to a 3D printed item? If not - maybe you would be the perfect person to make one? :o)

Many thanks.

Hi!, just checking my Thingiverse profile and your comment pop, good luck ;)

No problem about sharing my code, but i prevent you, it's a bit crappy, variables and comments in spanish (my native language) and may be buggy but i'm pleased to share. (I attached in 'Thing files' as a ZIP).

The base algoritmh is a 'growing line' i adapted from : https://www.openprocessing.org/sketch/421269 (great site for learning)
And my best recommendation for learning processing and creative coding is the Youtube Channel 'The Coding Train' https://www.youtube.com/user/shiffman . There's tons of stuff, including 3D modelling in Processing. Take a look at this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RkuBWEkBrZA

My best tip:Take it easy, good luck and have fun!!

How do you create something that beautiful? Programing?!

thanks! :) and yes.its a java program that i wrote a fewweeks ago

Wow, that looks so awesome!! I will start printing one this evening as soon as I am back from work.
