Customizable X-axis leveling tool designed for Prusa i3 Berlin. Used to make sure that each side of the X-axis is at the same height. Necessary since there's a stepper motor on each side and they can get out of step.
To use:
Place "forked" end of tool on Y smooth rod and use Z control to bring the X axis just above the flat part of the top of the tool. Manually rotate the Z rod for that side so the X carriage rod just touches the bottom of the "L" at the top of the tool. Adjust the other side the same way. Go back and forth to each side a few times to get the X-axis rod level.
IMPORTANT: Don't squish the tool between the rods by using the Z motor control - this could put pressure on the smooth rods and possibly bend them. Doing the final adjustment by hand works best.
I've been using this tool for awhile now and it works pretty well. One improvement would be if it had a hook to hang down from the X-axis rod instead of being squished between X-axis rod and Y-axis rod. Then you could hang one of the tools on each side of the X-axis rod and adjust them at the same time.

Successfully printed using 0.2mm layer height, 1.0mm shell width and 30% infill density. Square or triangular shapes might be more accurate than the curves that touch the smooth rods. Happy to see a remix!

The thing is a little bit to short, I would have make it maybe 5 or 10 cm long.

usually I just drive my carriage into the top frame, maybe integrating a spirit level into the printer may be worthwhile

Hi will this work with the Hictop Prusa i3 Mk2 ? Cheers.

A very much more simple thingy, but obviously not compatible with all printers:

Very nice idea. Thanks. And even better for using OpenSCAD :-)

great idea n i already print one.but unfortunately, its a lil too short for my sunhokey prusa i3 even cant reach the shaft from Y to X.need to dissamble my bed n nozzle if ii wanna use it.i cant use it at all.

Can someone point me to the customized one for the Monoprice Maker Select v2? I think it should be same as wanhao duplicator i3 but better safe than sorry. Also all the remixes just say "prusa i3" and I haven't found one that specifically says wanhao duplicator i3 or maker select.

i just remixed it for my MP Select plus by adding 25mm to the shaft length i also shorted the y rail claw 5 mm
my bed has to go all the way forward

Remixed Tool to level X-axis of Prusa i3 for Wanhao Duplicator I3 plus

Awesome little tool, thank you Michael

just want to say Thanks for the simple design and idea!!! after a month I've used it a few times and it's worked great and fixed a few minor print issues!!

Very clever! I will try this in the future.

hi, newbie question: will this work with the wanhao duplicator I3 ? If so do I just print out your stl file or must I customize it? thanks

did the same. Just printed out as it was and sadly too short for my Di3.

I had the same issue and just read this, didn't realize you could use the customizer...anyhow made a longer version which works with the Wanhao Duplicator i3

on the build instruction it says z should be 10.4cm does this tool make it that height?

You should be able to adjust the Z Distance in the Customizer to get the height you want. The Z Distance measures the distance between the centers of the two smooth rods.

mangtronix - Thanks! I printed one out right away and it helped.

AxelW - I enabled the design so you can "Open in Customizer". You just need to increase the "Z Distance". Hope that helps! http://www.thingiverse.com/apps/customizer/run?thing_id=280974

This is a neat tool to have. Can you extend the length by an extra 1 inch for me? I placed the tool and the X carriage wouldn't go down far enough since the hot end is touching the heat bed.

thank you ive been meaning to design something like this. it should be much more accurate than almost any other levelling method
