Print Thing TagSummary
This is a spool winder bit designed to interface with the Dremel Idea Builder filament spools and a power drill. It may also work with the Flashforge Dreamer and the Flashforge Inventor. My intention was to be able to transfer filament from generic spools onto my empty Dremel brand filament spools in order to be able to house more exotic filament types (not available from Dremel) directly inside my 3D printer.
Although the resulting part was a perfect fit and I was able to rapidly transfer filament as I had originally intended, I quickly realized that the tension applied onto the filament during the transfer process was too excessive and the transferred filament began to breakdown after a few days. I believe that transferring filament is an art and I have since decided to not bother with internal filament spools anymore.

How I Designed This
Unlike some of my other prints, this one went very smoothly. I only made two versions of this spool winder. I measured the gap dimensions of the target spool and the dimensions of a drill bit so that I could interface with both. The first version had sharp edges so I smoothened them in the second version.
