An open globe bowl, made from NASA Data. It was simply made to have an earth like bowl, but it happened to look like an egg from Aliens. So what :-).
I did not use supports and had just some minor strings at the lower part. No real problem.
Black isn't the best color for that, I am still using the filament that came with the printer.
Made from NASA Data:
Landscape Greyscale: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Srtm_ramp2.world.21600x10800.jpg
Bathymetry Greyscale: https://visibleearth.nasa.gov/view.php?id=73963
Stretched and smoothed them a little bit with Photoshop.
3D Studio Max: applied each image on a Geosphere using two opposing displacement filter. Did a smaller copy with less displacement and subtracted it from the big one. Accidentally, a little hole was formed near the northpole, north of Australia. Not a big problem in print, does not look very good...
Created some kind of wedge, formed like a cross and subtracted it from the upper side. Eventually I got four wings which I had to bend.
With another copy of the original globe, I made the foot. Squeezed it a lot to have some kind of "flat earth" ;-). And yes, I had to sign it, at the bottom, sorry...
