Hi, this project looks great! I'd like to make my own LED display with this idea and try to modify the code to build my own slip ring. Thanks for sharing the .STL files. I did not see the "tool" in the file list. Could you share that one too? I tried opening the .jscad file in the browser based alpha version over at openjscad.org and it wouldn't open for me. Could you share the file in regular .scad format so it can be opened in openscad?

Tool model has been added, and github repo has been fixed (though I added some photos which makes the initial clone a little big...).

To load the jscad script go to https://openjscad.org/ and drag-n-drop the src/ directory to the file section in the lower left. Edit locally, click Reload button, rinse and repeat.

Good luck!

I'll get the "tool" model added, though it's just a cylinder big enough to fit over the bolt, nothing too fancy :-)
It looks like the file I uploaded to GitHub has a few missing dependencies. I'll get that updated as well.

As for the jscad file, there is no easy conversion from jscad to scad (that I know of), it would have to be rewritten/ported.

Looks great! I was thinking of making something like this but with 4-conductors. Are you using this for power or a signal? If you are successfully getting a signal through, do you have any idea how noisy it is on the other side?

I use it for power.
I thought about sending a signal through it but opted to put the controller on the spinning side and just feed power through. Primarily because it was easier to fit two wires with considerable tolerance.

As for noise, my guess is it will be pretty noisy. I haven't used a scope on it or anything, but my brushes are definitely from the bargain bin!

I did find some decent pre-built slip rings available on Amazon, and actually got one, but then realized that it needed to be the hub (duh) and that it wouldn't support the weight that I needed.

Good luck!
