One of my cartridges died a couple of days ago (printer was showing 0m left, where there was still filament in the cartridge), so I made this simple cartridge counter resetter that snaps at the bottom and resets the internal eeprom counter. It uses an Arduino Pro Mini PCB, spring-action push pins and a 3v button cell with some very basic code (originally written by [email protected] and updated with more features and bug fixes for version J by me). Please note -- someone is selling my design on eBay (I do not sell on eBay) -- they are using my artwork and misrepresenting my design against the CC licence. Please do not support these guys.
The original kit (if you wan it) is always available @ http://wctek.com/shop complete with sundries ...

This is definitely useful. Will 5v fry the eeprom chip in the cartridge?

the pins you have on the instructables page are too small :(

I wonder if this will work on the Cube 3d printer 3fd generation? It has smaller chip with only 2 leds.

Hi, I only have ABS cardridge, can I reprogram this so the printer thinks it's PLA? or can you only reset the counter with this?
any help is welcome

Does it work with Da Vinci 1.0A with firmware ver 1.06?
Does version of xyzware matter, upon no network environment ?

If you want to put a transparent window in the top without messing with clear filament, place a piece of tape over the arrow on the top of the shell, rest the inverted top on a flat surface and fill the indent with Elmers glue. Leave it to dry overnight, remove the tape when the glue has dried and you will have a nice clear window.

What size are the 3 pogo pins?

Thank you for your work.

will this work on a da vinci 2.0 duo fw 2.1.4

I recently got a DaVinci 1.1 Plus Will this work on the cartridge that comes with it? I am on the fence on returning the printer.

hello nice project but I have a question , I made the last update to the printer and the FW is 1.2.4 now , will this still works?

you can downgrade to 1.1.J using the davinci_1_0_reset.zip and then it will work fine - file is on wctek.com/shop (downloads)
also you need to block xyz.exe with the firewall as tons of spyware has been added in xyzware 1.1.31 and newer.. good luck.

Cool Project fr333n3rgy I'm just wanting to know want type of coin cell battery works best with the battery slot in the model. Thanks

Can I use this to refill the cartridges with my own filement

You can refill the cartridge, but it's easier to just print a spool holder and have the filament sit on top of the printer and feed it through the handle recess to the print-head.

So if I put the filement straight to the print head do I still need a cartridge in it or is there a work. Around so it thinks there's one in. Or does the filement on top of the printer passthrough the cartridge to the printhead

The cartridge needs to be in place. It has a chip in it, which you reset with this device. the chip at the bottom of the cartridge is what tells the printer that you have filament present.

Now im wondering my machine has firmware 1.1.j can i still use this

Awesome.. My parts arrive today so should be fun

oh whoops, i meant to post that somewhere else

same thing happened to me on the settings you said, though i was able to widen the holes with a screw driver

I sure did -- that one in these pictures come from the XYZ. I used this exact stl file. My settings are: Quality: Excellent, 3D density: High, Speed Standard, Layer Height: 0.2, Shells Normal. The version of XYZware that I am using is 1.1.G (I have not yet upgraded the software - and I probably won't until I know what the changes are).

This is great by the way but did you print this on the XYZ, if so can you let me know the settings, I've printed two and both don't have a solid bottom. Using the XYZ software, I tried solid in fill and strong with raft but you can see the honeycomb patten instead of solid plastic.

I've put all of the needed electronic parts and a small description on http://wctek.com/xyzwctek.com/xyz

Hi, the board is just an arduino pro mini - you can upload anything you want from it via the logic level pins, but you'll need the usb board for it (sparkfun has them) -- I'm putting together a BOM and kit for the hardware as I have had many requests for it (people don't want to buy programmers etc etc) - so I'll preprogram a few boards etc... if anyone is interested in a kit (less the 3d printed part), email me at fr333n3rgy at yahoo dot com - pls don't leave requests over here as I don't want to get thingiverse mad :).

awesome, great job, do you have instructions and links. Want to purchase the board and would like to know the wiring. Does this board have usb connected to push code from sketch up?
