Updated 7/14/2018 - Updated scad file to work with Thingiverse Customizer
Inspired by the TV show "The Flash". While this can't produce a hologram break-up video, it does get the message across using plain old text.
If you don't know what I'm talking about, this is an OpenScad project to create a simple "break-up" box with custom text both inside the bottom of the box and inside the lid to deliver the bad news about ending a relationship. The box is large enough to return keys, jewelry, and other small gifts too. You can even throw in a facial tissue and a gift certificate for donuts or ice cream to provide some comfort in their time of sorrow.
Please see lines 22-46 for customizing the message. Note that there are some limitations towards the dimensions of the actual box. By default, the box is pretty much the smallest possible while allowing for a clearly readable 13 lines of 32-characters per line block of text.
Although the box was settled properly, I noticed that the lid is placed a couple of layers too high in the exported STL due to a flaw in the original design. So you might want to separate the lid and the box and settle both before slicing. Also the lid seems to be in two separate shells, so you may need to adjust the top part of the lid when you settle them. I used Microsoft 3D Builder to settle them.
Also, if you wish to change the actual size of the box, I suggest scaling the rendered STL rather than trying to do it with variables inside the SCAD file.
Credit goes to:
kijja for a great simple scad file for generating the box. I just added code for writing the text inside the box and inside the lid.
Note: This can take a very long time to render, the more text the longer it takes.
