Is there a way to remix the clamp so can slide into it perpendicular to the shelf?

Remixed the guide to accept 35mm diameter spool holes.


Generous fillet rather than a stress concentrating angle. Hasnt lost much rigidity over the original. Works great for up to 2kg spools. I havent tried heavier.

Hi, printed this on my Ender 3 Pro without issues. Turned out very good.
Unfortunately shortly after one of the ends broke off the roller.
Remade roller but this time done variable fill with the roller ends (pins) and a few mm of the tube 100% infill.
Also with 25% infill on the tubed part although probably a bit of overkill there :)

I've tried to print this on my Ender 3 a few times now but each time I go to print the holder for the roller, after a certain number of layers the layers get off center but a millimeter or so. As far as I can tell in Cura everything looks fine when going to slice it, but my printer just won't behave on it. It's always in the same spot too that it gets off center, and then it doesn't have any other issues with it for the rest of the print. Can I get some advice for fixing it? It probably wouldn't make the spool unusable, but it looks bad to me.

It's not the fault of the object. You have layer shift.

I can't seem to mount the CR-10 & Ender 3 brace to snap onto my cr-10s frame without it cracking at the right angle on the bottom. An advice on getting this to work? I'm considering switching from PLA to PETG to get that last little bit of flex hold before it snaps down.

I haven't seen this problem before. You could try to file the bit that snaps on until it fits smoothly, you could try sliding it on from the side of the aluminium extrusion, you could try scaling the model up by 2-3% in your slicer and like you said, changing the type of filament you use. Good luck!

If anyone is struggling with the end caps breaking on the roller I made some that fit a 22mm tube/pipe so you don't need to keep printing out the whole roller

This thing is great! Very strong....exactly what I needed. I will say that if you print the threaded bracket for the Ender printers, you may not need infill around the threads...that infill is a pain to get out of there! Great print! Thanks for all of the updates too!

Standing straight up vertically with supports only touching the bed. I think I also used rafts as bed adhesion.

I used 20 or 30% infill to give it more rigidity and a resolution of 0.16 I believe.

I really like Filler on my free-standing CR-10s, but I also have one printer in an enclosure, and wanted to use the Filler spindles. I've made a simple cradle for setting on the enclosure.

Hi! The diameter of the hole in my spools was smaller than the "Hold guide" part of this print, so they didn't fit. I've modified this part so it fits spools with an inner diameter up to 4.5cm (1.77 inch), here's the remix: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3429902

If you mean width, it can take about 8.5 cm at max.

Wow, this works really well. I tried to print the spindle on it's side but it does better as provided on end with support from build plate.

Over spin is often caused from having a high amount of static friction/tension that needs to be over come before the spool will move. Once the friction is over come all the force is released at once.

Try reducing the tension required to spin the spool in the first place:
1) place the spool closer to the extruder (shorten the length of filament between spool and extruder)
2) any sharp turns between the spool and extruder
3) avoid having the filament rub up against any surfaces. If it does rub up against corners or guides try placing them closer to the extruder and away from the spool.
4) It would be a pain but you could run a bowden tube between the spool and the extruder

If none of these are an option... maybe try taking the bearings off or using poor bearings.

I notice you have the spool on the shelf above the printer. I used to use the same configuration. Now I just have it next to my printer using command strips. You can check it out in my make photo I posted.

I was wondering if it is possible to put the slot for the guide on the mount/brace for the Prusa i3 Mk3 on the other side, so I can put two holders side-by-side. A bit like the stock holder on the Mk3 is.

Or one brace, that can hold two guides and rollers. That would be even better.

I'm very bad at 3d designing, otherwise I would give it a try myself.

Second time I print the center roll, any tips on how to fix this? Seems the top and bottom walls are too thin
Using Cura, following the recommended settings.

Note: I am also using the side holder for the Ender3, might make a spacer to extend it so the roll goes a bit further away, still thinking how to fix it :)

I've just finished printing the roller and experienced the same problem that you did. I reprinted it with a top and bottom thickness of 1.6mm instead of the 0.6mm it was set to as standard and it came out perfect. I also set it to have 20% infill to give the top layer something to rest on. (not sure if this is needed)

I'm sure there may be a more elegant way of solving the problem but as I'm still very new to 3d printing I did this and it worked for me.

I'd suggest using this remix. It makes the pin and the roller two different pieces to print, so you should't have to use supports :D. Link: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3055046

Roller and 2020 brace for Filler - Customizable Filament Holder - hollow with separate pin

Can anyone measure the dimensions of the spool holder with stand real quick?
I'm in store and there is a slick box I would love to put over the spool to keep moisture out lol

Currently printing the second roller for a second one of these. I did however have to make a new filler brace for the 2x2 shelf that I use for my spools. I will upload the remix file to Thingiverse soon.

I just sliced the spool roller in Cura 3.6 and see a split up the entire length of the roller in the layer view. Is this not a complete cylinder? Is this split intentional, or does it print completely? I want to make sure before I print it. Thanks for the great design!

Weird, that shouldn't be there, I don't have that problem myself. Maybe you could try slicing it with the recommended settings? If that doesn't work either, you could try downloading it again, using a different version of Cura or using Meshmixer to repair the mesh.

Interesting. I resliced it and it is still showing up in the layer view. Did your's show up like this? I guess I can give it a go.

No, I never had these problems, but from what I can tell it might be your Z Seam Alignment. Maybe try changing it's values, it might help.

Thanks for your help! I am still pretty new and had the z seam alignment set to: sharpest corner. I changed it to random and it went away. Maybe this can help other noobs!

Does the Creality Nut need supports on the inside for the threads?

I just installed your design on my ender 3 and it works perfectly.
There is virtually no resistance between my spool and extruder (with the help of the 2020 / Ender 3 Filament Guide).
It made a positive impact on my prints immediately!

Yes. It works great on my spools with 50 and 70mm, so 55mm should be fine.

I think this would actually work pretty well if you just made the roller with the skateboard bearings. the only issue is the skateboard bearings are 22mm in diameter and that says max 20. perhaps just widen it a bit in cura?

Very cool design. Just a suggestion, If you have a version where you replace the roller with PVC tube and print 2 plugs the mount on each end of the tube and still use the bearings you could forego printing the roller altogether. PVC has more than enough strength to handle the job.

In the notes you said that you added a mount for 2020 extrusion but I don't see one labeled for 2020 in the parts list. Which mount is for attaching to 2020 extrusions?

Yes, it's the CR-10/Ender file. I renamed it after I rendered it and made the file to 2020 because other 3D-printers with 2020 frames can use it, but that's the file I'm referring to. I'll add that in the notes. Thanks!

So I printed out all my parts for my Ender 3 but I'm using this ount that puts the spool off to the side of the base

Unfortunately with the Ender 3 mount it puts the spool right in the way of the Zmotor assempbly. I had to move the spool back up top for now until I can figure out what else I can do to make the feed more direct from the side. Perhaps I'll screw it to the desk.

Also the screw for the Ender 3 shapes is REALLY tight.

It's also possible that you have some elephant foot-ing, where the first layer or three are bulged out slightly due to squish, weight, and bed heat. This will majorly impact nuts and bolts that you print that start at the bed. I use a deburring tool to shave the first couple layer widths down after the print's done.

I made the Ender 3 version with the metal brace in mind while it is on top of the frame, so I didn't know this was a problem.
If the Ender 3 screw is really tight you could try putting some graphite powder lubricant in between for it to go a little smoother.

When you add 5% grid infill when slicing the roller you get a nice X through the center for extra strength.

Would it be possible for you to make one for spools with 32mm diameters? Spools from AMZ3D doesn't fit on this.

I know it would probably be a challenge, but I think you could make it shorter so the 1kg won't be on the very end of the spool holder.

I'm sorry to say I won't be adding/changing any current files. It has pretty much every basic file, and if you'd like different versions, there are a lot of fantastic remixes. Here is a photo of it installed, both with the roller and without.
There is usually a plexi-glass door in place of the white board on the left.
You have to install it far enough away from the corner to be able to move a roll on and off.
Or you can slide up the roller and detach it from the wall mount, put on a new roll, and then slide them back down together.
It's your choice.
I prefer to just slide the rolls on and off.

Depends, If you want to use the metal brace, use the Ender 3 version, if not, use the 2020 version.

I think it would be possible to make one for a closet rod, except if it is round. Also, there are a lot of closet rods, so I think it is best if you make one yourself. I've placed the .STEP files in the Thing Files, so you could make one without too much hassle.

Maybe I am doing this wrong but it seems to be facing the wrong directiong if I mount it to my Ender 3, its facing the wrong direction because the spool goes the other direction and is fed through the side, its not a top down setup. Did I print the wrong parts? I used the Creality C-10 Ender mount.

No, you're not doing it wrong, it is supposed to be like that. The spool should fit on like this (https://www.thingiverse.com/make:530979) but is seems like that wont work because of your tool holder. If you want it to be in the other direction you can use Wile28's remix (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3160525), this one also let's you use 2 spools at the same time.

I also see you aren't using the Filler mount for the metal brace provided with the Ender 3, might want to try it out ;).

Maomaobadmonkey is correct. You cannot use the CR-10 Ender version with the Ender 3...it is the wrong orientation. It has nothing to do with the tool holder. The Wile28 remix would work, but the better option would be to use the Creality Bolt and Creality Nut files along with the metal brace provided with the Ender 3. Thank you for creating this Thing. I look forward to printing it as soon as I get some bearings.

would gear bearings work in this?

What do you mean with Gear Bearings? Filler is made to work with 608 bearings, you can look up the measurements for it to see if your bearings will work. The 608 bearings are available here: https://amzn.to/2LQmdNB, here: https://amzn.to/2LOilNd (For US) and in any local skate shop.

I think it could be done, but you'd have to print a Gear Bearing with the dimensions of a 608 bearing (Thickness = 7mm, Inner diameter = 8mm & Outer diameter = 22mm) which would be very small, and you'd need a printer that can print in great detail. If you want to use it, I suggest using a metal 3D printing service, but that'd cost a lot of money, so it would be a better value for your money if you bought some bearings from Amazon or something like that.

I have made a stand for it, I just haven't posted it yet because I'm not fully satisfied with it, but it does work. If you'd like, I can post is when I have time.

Hey, i like your design and would like to print the version the Anet A8 but unfortunately the part is too big and wont fit the printing area... Really sad :(

CURA said it was too big even at an angle. I then realized that I had it set to print a brim. When I changed it to skirt CURA changed its mind. I have not printed it yet.

It should fit if you turn in so it's diagonally on the heated bed. Otherwise you could try to cut it in half in meshmixer or tinkercad and glue it together with something like CA glue. I'm half you like it and good luck with printing!

Even better than I first realized! I have very little room on the right side of my printer. So little room that I cannot take my spool off the holder. No Problem! The holder easily lifts out of the wall mount. Crisis avoided.

I just had a spool manage to work itself off this holder tonight. I need to make sure i'm not drooping toward the back. A straight edge on the roller might help keep the spool on vs the tapered edge.

I will try to fix it as soon as possible, though I don't have a lot of free time on my hands since school just started.

I love the design. I think short term I'll try to bend the metal holder to make it lean more toward the front of the printer. This little piece of metal is tougher than it looks.

I added a threaded end to the roller guide with a matching nut that should fit nicely on the Creality Ender 3, CR10 with the original metal bracket without needing to print the adapter. This should reduce time and print filament.

This one might work out much better than the one that Hugo put up. With his shape it gets in teh way of the Z motor when using the side-mount.

I'm afraid that won't work, as I would have to make a lot of changes that would damage the model itself. You might want to remix it yourself, since that might be a better and quicker solution.

No, this is not made for the factory nut because, If you print it with the bolt facing upward, you don't need any support on the model itself because the threads are a little bitter, and the nut I made is bigger and easier to tighten.
You can use any type of 608 bearing, because the '608' part identifies the dimensions of the bearing which is the crucial part (being 7 mm thick, 22 mm outer diameter, 8 mm inner diameter), and the letters on the end identify how the balls are protected (ZZ being protected by metal plates on both sides)

How do you print the bolt without support ?

In Cura you'll have to print them individually, but the bolt only needs support touching the build plate, and the nut doesn't need support at all.

This looks great! My only suggestion is to remove the pin from one side of the roller and add it back in as a peg. That way you can print it without supports. Edit: I remixed it myself. I also hollowed it out. it'll be 4 perimeter lines at .4mm with no infill for faster printing.

I checked my current settings for both objects, and it was only about a 10 min time saving as I have my printer slow down if the per layer time is too short. The material use was 5.5m instead of 7.1m, so there was a slight savings there. Make is added to .. .well, makes. ;)

I also added a medium and short height 2020 brace with a 5mm bolt hole for extra security.

This is great. I made one similar, but you're is much more refined. The problem I had with mine is that the spool rolls "too well". In fact, I walked out to a roll that had unrolled itself a good bit and was laying on al over the floor lol. Have you had a similar thought? I'd wonder if there is a way to "tighten" it a bit, perhaps some sort of adjustable spring or "brake pad". Thoughts?

Added plastic bearing with increased friction. Use this when experiencing problems with normal bearings. You can add some graphite powder lubricant in between the roller and the plastic bearing for better rolling.

or just use 1 normal 608 bearing on one end of the roller and the update bearing at the other end of the roller.

In my experience the roll doesn't unwind by itself, but if you'd like I could make a plastic holder that sits in the spot of the bearings to add a bit of friction. This could help resolve your problem :)

This looks great! Looking to get something more stable than my current tush setup. Is using only one filler recommended, does the difference in diameter between the rolling pin and the spool cause any issues? Should I be looking at finding a way to use two fillers instead? (I saw the gifs, the two filler setup looked smoother, or perhaps I imagined it?)

If you spin the roll on the single Filler fast it is a little wobbly, but when printing using Filler it hardly wobbles at all. You can always use two Fillers, which might be a better idea of you're using a printer that uses a lot of filament at once, like the Lulzbot Taz with the MOARstruder. Otherwise I'd stick with the single Filler set-up.

I'd love to whip up a little mount for the Monoprice Maker Select/Wanhao Di3. If you'd be willing to share the f3d for just the brace portion that'd make life really easy!

I'm currently working on a CR-10 filament holder that'd work with the Monoprice Maker Select after some minor changes. It uses metal part provided with the printer that has a hole in it, and uses a printed bolt and nut to attach it to the metal part. I only need the diameter of the hole in the metal part, the distance from the top of the hole to the top of the metal part and the width of the metal part to make one for these printers :)

For the Ender 3/CR-20, it would be great to have the end have a threaded post and nut that would just replace the factory part that attaches to the upright metal part. Similar to this, but not so large and gaudy of a nut. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2988540

Edit: Perhaps the better thing to do and for easier printing, would be to take the tabs off the wall holder and put a threaded portion on the back of that along with a matching nut. The width of the inside back of the bracket is 39.69mm (there's a slight radius at the bent edges) and the center of the hole is 20mm from the top. Hole diameter is 30mm. This would allow use of the factory bracket on the Ender 3, CR-20, and CR-X.

Alright, thanks for the information! I'ts difficult for me to make a CR-10/Ender 3 spool holder since there are very little reliable ones on Thingiverse, but with these measurements I think a spool holder should be up this evening (CEST timezone). I'm glad you like the model :)

Awesome! Let me know if you need any other info or a picture. I have a CR-20 and it has the same upright as the Ender 3 and CR-X. Will definitely print the holder to test for fit for you.
