Yuppers, it solves the problem at the tip of the pyramid by building a floor 4 to 6 layers deep to act as raft to carry the decreasing edges. It continues building solid until it supports the new wall and then reverts to hollow. This may have something to do with the the parametres I chose or the slicer.

I was surprised to see that the printer was able to build a floor across such a distance, c. 35 mm on this print, but it did. I'm not sure of the decision to build an edge to edge floor, but can use it to my advantage. I plan to mount two RGB LEDs, one up facing and one down facing in the centre to the floor, it should lead to some interesting combinations of colour and meaning when paired with its mate.

Glad you are finding a use for it, but sorry that something is not going right for your hollow version!

As it happens, a bit serendipity! Thanks for getting back to me.

I loved the form and immediately thought of a two part lamp with interactive lighting on each side -- two forms in an embarrassed communication. Sadly, all the hollow models I tried left a one-layer(?) shelf hanging in mid air and may left a space at the intersection. Looking closely at the image you will be able to see both. I had altered the original to give it more of an organic growth form (narrow bottom, expanded top and some flaring). Still, a beautiful and deeply resonant form from nature.

Don't worry if the preview looks funny for the hollow version; the STL download will be fine and not have any of the artifacts you see in the preview. Let me know if not!
